Zipping up a zipper that won't zip

"For Trump to heal this country (should he win), that zipper will have to be forced to zip shut. It will be painful; it might even be impossible. Should Kamala win, she will give a rip about the zipper. Let it stay open and screw the other side. After all, who needs to be zipped up when you are falling apart."

It has happened to most of us. Just when you need them to work the most and the fastest, a zipper will fail you. It could be the zipper has some "broken teeth" on one side of the zipper. That means this clothing item, which is supposed to make your garment look seamless, all of a sudden makes you look undressed (to an extent). What does this have to do with the price of tea in China? Nothing. It is my morning analogy on how, after a week from Tuesday, we are going to try and "zipper up" this fractured country.

I have been trying to determine at what point in time, this country became so bifurcated. When both sides of the zipper became alien to the other side. When the "zipper", our national fabric, became unmendable. How bad has it become? There is not one person I have expressed my concern to who has said anything remotely similar to "Don't worry - be happy. It will all be fine". On the contrary, I hear forecasts of doom and gloom. No matter who wins. Why? The other side will not accept the opponent's victory. Not even fractionally.

With less than ten days out, the question which begs to be asked is this - "what happens tomorrow?" There will be the joy of victory for the winning side, and many on the other side will refuse to accept that victory. The most common slogan (no matter who wins), will be "NOT MY PRESIDENT!".

Every four years, when we have an election, the most common promise is "I will bring this country together". Or "I will be the president to all, regardless of party". Never happens. I will never forget then McCain was asking something of Obama, after Obama won the election. It was a common sense ask, something which could bring some healing. Obama looked at McCain and said "No to your request. Why? I won the election". And there you have it. Healing denied.

My personal feeling is Biden really took a sludge hammer to the zipper once he was sworn in. All things near and dear to Trump and his supporters were soiled. For Trump to heal this country (should he win), that zipper will have to be forced to zip. It will be painful; it might even be impossible. Should Kamala win, she will give a rip about the zipper. Let it stay open and screw the other side. After all, who needs to be zipped up when you are falling apart.
