"Where do we go from here? Now that the elections are over after today, maybe tomorrow Schumer can allow the Democrats in the Senate to re-open the government. Then we can get down to the business of fixing what needs to be fixed. Or - we can just kick the can down the road (again)."
I know, I know. This is an old topic. Or should I say topics? Both SNAP and Obamacare are trainwrecks, and now the rubber is about ready to meet the road. Because we have the chattering class in our country, who still look at Barry Obama as something almost divine, touching his Obamacare to fix it or preferably kill it - is like a sacrilege. With that in mind, the best solution offered so far, is to pour good money after bad. In other words, keep this corpse afloat.
But until that happens, the folks who use Obamacare are going to get a shock to their system when they see their new health insurance rates. The Affordable Care Act will prove itself once again to be anything but that. Sooner or later the truth will come out, that this signature law of Barry Obama, is as phony as he is. Sad fact, but true. Time to put a fork in this law, as it is over and done.
SNAP funding (food stamps) continues to be a real bugaboo. Now that the funding has been terminated for the shutdown, trying to get some relief for those who need it is going to be a challenge. Why is this so hard? It takes a while for the proper moneys to flow through the proper pipelines in government. Once that gets going, things usually work smoothly. But to take money which is not the money which was authorized and appropriated and fit it into these pipelines - takes some time and much effort. Meanwhile, some who really need that food assistance - can't get it. Now what?
This is what happens when we don't address problems and issues within our country. We have kicked the can down the road for decades now, on our national health care issue. We have the best health care in the world, but short of Canadian socialism, keeping it affordable has proven to be a bridge too far. Maybe now, with the impending collapse of Obamacare, we can get a "round to it".
SNAP is a whole different issue. Many were shocked to find out we have one out of eight citizens on SNAP right now. That is terrible! That is the big issue - getting the fraud out of the system is the next big issue. Many think the charity to others should be handled by the churches and non-profits instead of the government. I am one of those people. We need to get ahold of this program - and soon.
Where do we go from here? Now that the elections are over after today, maybe tomorrow Schumer can allow the Democrats in the Senate to re-open the government. Then we can get down to the business of fixing what needs to be fixed. Or - we can just kick the can down the road (again).
