"By the way, do you think Musk is going to take some bows and enjoy the spotlight of this great achievement? Nope. This was just another small step in the big journey to put people on Mars (and the Moon). While NASA continues to play checkers, Musk plays four-dimensional chess."
Been an amazing week. It really has been. The head of Hamas (Yahya Sinwar) was killed by the IDF. Was this a long-planned attack? Nope. Sinwar (appropriate name) was killed by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was killed by ordinary IDF troops, not the elite ones. That was huge news. In addition, the Fox News interview with Kamala Harris was big news. The continual cleanup from the twin hurricanes is still big news. But with all of that going on, something happened in the background which was really HUGE!
SpaceX, which has been in business now for only about 20 years, is about ready to put NASA out of business. This upstart space company, run by a car guy with zero aerospace experience, just keeps doing amazing things, as NASA (and Boeing) continue to trip all over themselves. But what they did this week, was indeed an eye popper.
At the SpaceX launch facility, a 400-foot-tall rocket was ready to blast off. On Sunday morning, this gargantuan spaceship blasted off and propelled its payload into space. After the payload was delivered, the booster part of the rocket, all 232 feet of it, fell back to Earth. Instead of making a huge splash in the ocean, it was guided back to the launchpad. Right before the booster would have made a big mess on the launchpad, its rockets fired, the booster slowed, and the "chopsticks" on the launcher caught that 232 booster like it was a little baby. A little refurbishment, and the booster will be ready to launch again.
Not too many years ago, a story such as this would have been considered a tall tale or science fiction. Now, Elon Musk has made this science fact. This has become an ordinary way to conduct the business of space. It saves a ton of money; it is better for the environment and has put the "WOW" factor back into rocket launches. Not bad for a car guy.
By the way, do you think Musk is going to take some bows and enjoy the spotlight of this great achievement? Nope. This was just another small step in the big journey to put people on Mars (and the Moon). While NASA continues to play checkers, Musk plays four-dimensional chess. He is the greatest innovator of our time, and his hits just keep on coming.
One more thing. If you think 2024 was an amazing year for the companies that Elon runs, just wait until 2025. Get used to saying Optimus Gen III. Why? When you see it, you will know. It will be the next "WOW" thing that Elon shows us.
