"Taking two aspirin and call me in the morning is going to be more common than rare under ObamaCare..."
After watching the presser on September 10th, we have yet one more issue to pile on our endless pile of issues. How many are important? All of them. However the one issue, the one which involves the government's take over of 1/6 of our economy, the one which affects just about everybody, is rarely discussed anymore. Well, it needs to be.
Last night we attended an event on the current state of ObamaCare. What a mess. It is a mess and getting messier because (Cloward and Piven?) our gaze has been directed elsewhere. The old axiom that "you don't get nothing for free" seems to coming true in spades with healthcare. The "more and better for less" which was promised by the snake oil salesman has turned out to be "much less for much more and some rationing thrown in to boot".
As with most other things, our healthcare takeover also has unintended consequences. To get through med school, most people run up tens of thousands of dollars in student debt. Some even six figures of debt. To pay that back and make a half way decent living, most doctors need to charge a fee which is commensurate with the expenses of the services provided. For the government to step in and mandate "caps" on services provided is leading to an exodus of GP physicians. At my clinic right now, a sizable percentage of the GP staff are Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners rather than doctors. The doctors are leaving.
What we learned last night is we need to keep walking and chewing gum at the same time. In other words, as bad as our heath care is right now under the "unaffordable" care act, it will only get worse in the next few years. Over half of the country still hate it. So our job is to work for total repeal of this unsightly monster and replace it with something that really works. We need to undo the harm which it has already caused. There are a very few parts of the act that might be worth keeping. However, for those parts to work correctly, they need to be put in a different package which replaces ObamaCare.
Most people don't realize how blessed we are in this state to have a real, honest to goodness, heath care watchdog organization. For twenty years now, the Citizen's Council for Health Freedom (CCHF) have been keeping their eye on the ball, even though the other side has been pushing failed initiatives such as MNSure. Tireless crusaders for heath justice, our homegrown group has developed a national reputation. I strongly encourage anyone who is concerned about the state of our heath care to visit their site (and contribute if you can) at http://www.cchfreedom.org/
Yes, we must do more than one thing at a time. Taking care of this terrorist problem called ISIS (that we let fester too long) is of utmost importance. Getting the IRS and NSA back into line is highly important. Fixing the economy remains a critical issue. Getting all the lies and garbage out of our government which led to things like Benghazi also need to be done. However we cannot, I repeat cannot, forget about the repeal of this unwieldy behemoth which is wrecking the greatest heath care system in the world.
We owe it to ourselves. We owe it to our kids. We owe it to people world wide who come to the United States for their last best chance for a cure. Our battle cry needs to be total repeal in 2017!
