Escape from Iran, or - what is next?

The theocracies and dictatorships are being ushered out the door."

Oh, if only Bruce Laingen was alive today to see what is happening in Iran. Bruce, a Minnesota native, was the last head of our embassy in Tehran, Iran. When the revolution came to Iran in the late 1970's, Bruce was one of the group of hostages which was held for 444 days by the student revolutionaries. Thus, was born a new Iran. A country which adopted a sick and twisted theocracy and thus became one of the world's troublemakers.

Because I am an old timer, I remember those days. I was working in the defense industry when the revolution happened. The company I worked for had some Iranians in house training on the equipment we had sold them. When the revolution happened, those deals between the US and Iran vanished. As did the Iranians who were housed at the company. Why? They were now orphans of sort - men without a home to return to.

Iran is falling. Tehran is burning. This could be it. The end of this hellscape called the Islamic Republic of Iran. The people, who are not part of the Revolutionary Guard or other elements of the corrupt regime, are rioting in the streets. Some are being killed. Others don't care about the risk to life and limb - they want their country back. Maybe not back to the days of the Shah, but at least back some sort of self-rule. 

President Trump said if people were protesting in the streets, he would not allow them to be mowed down by gunfire. We would intervene. Not with boots on the ground, but nevertheless, intervene. Based on over 100 protesters killed so far, that time might be approaching.

Now that we have a semi-decapitated Venezuela, what are we going to do with a totally decapitated Iran? The UN? Please, don't make me laugh. How do we ensure a newly reborn Iran with a leadership vacuum, does not become another "Rosemay's Baby" due to evil interlopers? How do we help make sure Iran, like Iraq, now has free and fair elections? As many of us can remember, going into Iraq after the fall of Hussien, was like going into a den of vipers. Very dangerous, very deadly.

BTW one more thing. Keep one eye on Russia. They might be next. Many Russians have about had it with Putin's war.
