Oh-oh - there goes the "street cred"....

"Be careful for what you wish for..."

It seems the law of unintended consequences is hitting once again. This morning, I had an interesting moment. I was watching a replay of a show played over the weekend. Two Progressives were being questioned about the insane problems the ACA web portal is having. It turned out to be a "Kodak Moment". One of the Progressives said something that gave me a real "LOL". That person said, "The biggest problem with not being able to fix the website is people will lose faith in the government." BINGO!

For years, Progressives have been able to fight back criticism of government inefficient bureaucracy by using shallow or vapid arguments. The best examples that most people would use to show the inefficiency were the Post Office (although not really run by the government), DMV, TSA and the IRS. However this mess with the ACA is a whole different ball game. It is much, much bigger than the web portal. It is going to affect everyone and the true cost of this thing is finally starting to show it's head.

Okay, okay. We have all known for years now there is significant funding problems with the big three entitlement programs. The Progressives have told us time and again these funding problems are because of the "rich" not paying their fair share. Plus they say we need to  "means test" people to receive any benefits they have paid for. However, this new health care law was going to be different. Many on the Left believe the people in the Administration who sold this "snake oil". Not only was this going to fix ALL the ills in our health care system, we would pay and receive lot more. Plus, it had a whole bunch of goodies that we would be getting for free. Yes, this historic program was going to let the "government haters" "eat crow".

There was quite of bit of credibility riding on the ACA working well and doing as it promised. Whoops. However, it seems the house of cards might have been one or two cards shy. Instead of bolstering the image of big government being the end all to save all, rather it has shown the Emperor to be naked. It is a slow motion disaster showing in great detail what happens when you let rank armatures tackle complex professional tasks. The result is we now have both feet in the tar with no clue on how to get out of the pit.

In the real world, the Secretary of HHS would have been gone on October 2nd, along with most of her staff. Heads would still be rolling. However, in the world of big government, stuff just happens and the world continues to spin. Nobody ever gets fired or demoted - the buck is just past to someone else. The plain truth is this - the big causality so far is the "street cred" of big government. The Administration is going to have to put a whole lot of lipstick on this pig to make this mess acceptable to people like you and me.
