The Canary in the Coal Mine

"If you like your plan, you can keep it"

Years ago, when I was in the work a day world, once in a while you would find yourself working either with or for a jerk. It just happens. Most people in the workplace are nice and great to work with. However, there is still a small percentage of people who are jerks.

Every once in a while, everyone gets in some kind of trouble in the workplace. You screw up, step off the curb, miss a deadline. Again, it just happens. When a nice co-worker gets into a jam, many friends and colleagues are there to throw life jackets and floatation devices to keep that person afloat. However, when a jerk gets in trouble, a person who never treated others well or with integrity, the jerk gets thrown anchors and anvils to help him sink faster.

That brings me to today and our fast developing saga called the Affordable Care Act. I have said this in the past - pay no attention to the misfired web portal. That is just an annoyance and will be fixed (eventually). The real "canary in the coal mine" is happening right now with people involuntarily losing their insurance policies. Not just a few, but millions. Instead of "manning up" and confessing he did not tell the entire story truthfully for the past four years, the President and his team are now giving us more lies and deceit. Many people are getting ready to throw this group anchors and anvils for what they have done to us.

Why do I say this could only be the "canary in the coal mine"? We are starting to get some indication on why the employer mandate was delayed for a year. No, it was not out of the milk of human kindness. There is an IED buried within the employer mandate ready to go off when implemented. It is forecasted the rates insurance companies will need to charge employers for their employee coverage will explode. Why? The insurance companies will need to cover increased costs due to coverage of all the "free" items under the ACA.

When that happens, all hell is going break loose. Companies will not be able to absorb those kinds of costs. Policies will be cancelled and employees thrown out into the exchanges. The house of cards will start to lean and then tumble. The exchanges will not be able to handle the massive flood of people coming in. The people coming in to the exchanges will not be able to handle the new cost of their insurance. Many think the President will then rush in with "Plan B", which has been in his back pocket since day one.

Some people smarter than I think this was the master plan all along. Devise a system so complex, so cocked up, it could not possibly work. When it fails, rush in with a simple "single payer" system and wa-la! Problem solved. In a very short period of time, we will have taken the world's best health care system down into mediocrity or lower. It will become a true crime against humanity.

The next time you hear the quarterback or his health care team make any more statements or promises, my advice is to believe nothing you hear. Trust is earned and not given. Many voted for the Pied Piper (twice) because he was going to give us all something even better than a chicken in every pot. Instead, all we got is a turkey.
