The coming gun laws?

"Those who thought that things would settle down in St. Paul once Dayton was gone might want to think again. The makers against the takers, the haves against the have not's, the conservatives against the socialist, the gun owners against the gun grabbers - all grist for the mill in St. Paul."

When the new legislature starts new year, with a new Governor sitting in the Governor's mansion, the fight will be ready to start - all over again. There are so many differences in how government should be viewed, how it should be run, I could almost write a book. But this morning, I believe the cornerstone issue next session will be more (or different) gun laws. For the Loony Left, there is nothing they would like more than to get this slippery slope sliding.

What kind of things have I heard bantered about from the Left? Red Flag laws, like the one which was just signed into law in Florida. That might be the one which would make the slope the slipperiest. Then of course, more extensive back ground checks, higher age limits, longer waiting periods, limitation on the size of mags, will all be on the Left's menu. Besides the one's listed, the list could go on, and on, and on.

But hold on! It is not only the Left who wants different gun laws, so do the Conservative Republicans. For starters, the Right really wants to have Stand Your Ground legislation. Why? Any use of a fire arm in MN right now (for defensive purposes) is a risky proposition. Stand Your Ground would give the gun owner a better margin of justification and legal protection should he or she ever need to use a firearm in self defense, or for the protection of property. I have talked to many gun owners who have told me this is a "must have".

But the big prize for gun owners is Constitutional Carry. It is growing in popularity across the nation, with twelve states now having it enacted. Of those twelve, eight of those states enacted it within the past three years. It is also being pushed in up to a dozen other states, Iowa being one of them. For the gun owners as well as the gun grabbers, this issue will be the hill worth dying for. Get ready for seismic arguments in the Minnesota House if discussions on this issue ever get started in earnest.

Those who thought that things would settle down in St. Paul once Dayton was gone might want to think again. The makers against the takers, the haves against the have not's, the conservatives against the socialist, the gun owners against the gun grabbers - all grist for the mill in St. Paul.

Stay tuned. Iowa might be the next state to pass Constitutional Carry. If it is - watch out. The Hawkeye state might be used as Exhibit "A", on why Minnesota should also have it enacted.

  1. Sounds like sound logic to me (to get even more people killed).
