Our next 9/11

"Vigilant always. I guess we have forgotten that lesson. After only 21 years. May the Lord have mercy on this great country. May He protect us from horrible evil events which could be visited upon us by evil doers from abroad. Amen."

9/11/2001. Our day of infamy. The first day of infamy was before most of our times. Pearl Harbor is getting closer to being 100 years old. But 9/11? That was like yesterday. And next Sunday, is the 21st anniversary of 9/11. What will many of us be doing? For starters, many in the church crowd will be having their "Rally Sundays". Sunday School will be starting up again, and it is time to get back in the routine of going to Sunday church. Anything else going on? Oh yes - that minor event called Viking/Packer football.

Does having all these things coincide with 9/11 mean we will no longer remember? On the contrary, most will never forget. Even though after Pearl Harbor, we as a nation swore that we would never forget the lessons of that day - we did. We let our guard down. Became too trusting. Or, naïve.

We all made pinky promises to each other to never forget that beautiful Tuesday morning in September. When the tranquil bliss of that sunny morning was torn apart by two jet airplanes slamming into the twin towers. When it was all said and done, almost 3,000 people died that day, with the twin towers laying in shambles. It was a sucker punch like we had never seen in our heartland before.

Even though some of us are still smarting from that day, and bound to the lessons it taught us, for many in our present government, that awful day is all but forgotten. Instead of ignoring foreign nationals who overstay their visas, we have now opened up our southern border and let anyone and anything to cross it, at anytime. Some say this is just a ticking time bomb. That horrible people with horrible plans for us might already be in the heartland. Who are they, and where are they? No clue. We don't do that kind of stuff anymore.

What if it happens again? Another sucker punch? Or a worse sucker punch. How will that look on Biden's and Mayorkas' legacy? That their remiss on our southern border led to innocent American lives being lost? Is it too late to stop another attack? I hope not.

Vigilant always. I guess we have forgotten that lesson. After only 21 years. May the Lord have mercy on this great country. May He protect us from horrible evil events which could be visited upon us by evil doers from abroad. Amen.
