Maybe the best of friends no more...

"What could help bring about peace in Ukraine? Maybe developing some distance between Putin and Lukashenko. Plus, it might get some innocent people out of a Belarus prison. What does Trump have to lose just by trying? Nothing."

It is no secret that Belarus is Putin's closest (any maybe only) friend in Europe. If we were going to go one-on-one against Russia, we would also have Belarus to deal with. But wait - is that red hot bromance starting to thaw? Does Lukashenko have some other interests other than the war criminal Putin? It seems that might be the case. And guess who has made some overtures with Mr. Lukashenko? None other than Donald J. Trump.

Wait - hold on for just a second or two. Why in the world would Trump give this Putin pasty the time of day at twelve noon? It has been said before by many, Trump often plays four-dimensional chess while others are playing checkers. On his way up to Alaska, Trump decided to throw the long ball. Try something which had not been tried before. He called Lukashenko from Air Force One. Why? To develop a relationship and to ask a favor. He would like Lukashenko to release some political prisoners.

I could only imagine the look on Lukashenko's face when an aide came into his office and told him he had a phone call from the President of the United States. Maybe he thought it was a joke or a prank call, since in his 31 years in office, no president had ever called him before. But it was the real deal. Donald J. Trump, calling him direct.

Now does that mean that Trump and Lukashenko are instant BFFs? Not hardly. What it does mean is Trump might be close to getting some more political prisoners released. Also, Trump has heard from "sources" that the bloom is off the rose in the relationship between Putin and Lukashenko. Oh, they are still friends and neighbors, but (I think) that road to Putin's friendship might be looking like a dead end. Maybe what Trump could offer is hope and opportunity.

One of the things that Trump is very good at is going into the lion's den. Always looking for the upside, he did that during his first term with Kim Jong Un of North Korea. Who could ever forget Trump, along with Kim, in the DMZ stepping over the border between south and north Korea. He has accepted an invite to visit Xi in China in 2026. Anything, to meet anybody, to broaden our opportunities for peace and commerce. Love him or not, Trump is one of the best at this - maybe the best ever.

What could help bring about peace in Ukraine? Maybe developing some distance between Putin and Lukashenko. Plus, it might get some innocent people out of a Belarus prison. What does Trump have to lose just by trying? Nothing.
