Evil Hovers

"It has been said the most evil thing Satan has done to mankind is convincing us he does not exist"

I have read a fascinating book entitled Exodus. This book is about the exodus of bible believing Christians from churches that do not profess the same. In one of the early chapters, Satan is addressed. The topic is talked about because so many Christians today refuse to believe in Satan or the evil he brings.

A while ago I got together for coffee with four other men to discuss Men’s Ministry. The five men present had experiences from four separate churches. All had stories to tell about how Satan had attacked their churches in a unique, yet equally devastating way. It was a sobering discussion. One man stated that the more successful a ministry becomes, the harder Satan comes after the church to make the ministry fail. He was right - I have seen that happen more than once.

The next evening, one of the men called to discuss the meeting. He had been thinking about it most of the day. He was able to put into a few words what I too, was wrestling with since the meeting. He said “Satan hovers over churches, doesn’t he?” Bingo – that is the problem that so many churches fail to address. Ignoring the evil or pretending that Satan does not exist will not stop the evil; it will just leave you unprotected and vulnerable. Satan knows this and is counting on it.

The good news that we have learned from our teachings is how to be protected – totally. Ephesians 6; verses 10-18, describes the protection, the armor that we need. However, to receive it, we must live it.  We must pray daily for our church, our pastors, our staff, our lay leaders. The Word tells us that when we pray in Jesus name, Satan flees. We must pray individually, pray together, pray continuously.

Satan may hover over churches, but it is the Holy Spirit that will brood over churches that prayerfully call upon Him for mercy and protection. We need to stay strong, stay united, stay in the Word. We need to stay in prayer. These are trying times. We need prayer, our country needs prayer, our churches need prayer, and we need it now.
