"Slut Puppies"

 

 

"Why do anything with no plan nor effort when the outcome will be total and complete defeat?"

When I worked in industry, I had a teammate from another company on the East Coast who became a very good friend. Once, when he was in town, I invited him over to the house for dinner. As soon as he came in, our dog Pepper came over to him and went into her submissive stance (laying on her back with her legs bent up). My friend started to rub her belly and then called her a "slut puppy". When I asked him why he used that term, he said he called his Airdale Terriers that name all the time when they "assumed that position". He went on to say that this was a normal thing for a dog to do. It is a sign of total surrender, total submission.

The specifics of "THE DEAL" which is being crafted by the two leaders in the Senate are starting to leak out into the press. One of the pundits I listened to this morning said "this deal is about as close to total surrender by the Republicans as you can get". In other words, the Republicans are going to leave this two week shut down with nothing gained except damage to their brand. Except for a minor "tweak", there will be no change to Obamacare, and our national debt will keep on growing. If that is truly the outcome, then the Republicans will have shown themselves to be nothing more than "slut puppies".

So here we are, half way through October and nothing has been resolved. I have never worked for an organization when the question was asked "What have you accomplished since our last meeting?" and an acceptable answer would have been "Nothing." To show nothing since the shutdown, the Republicans are guilty of malfeasance. Again, they REFUSE to transmit a clear message using a viable messenger. The Democrats on the other hand, are guilty of a type of treason. They knowingly are driving our debt riddled car over the cliff.

My confession is this - I have always been attracted to boldness. Boldness of action, boldness of thought, boldness of vision. We chose a church to attend by the boldness of mission. As much as I admire boldness, I am turned off by timidity. Weak kneed, round heeled woosies. I am afraid by the end of the week, we might be seeing very little boldness and a whole bunch of woosies.

A good friend of mine in local politics told me he (like many of us) would like to just get it over with - fix the debt and do it now. In his words, "death by a thousand cuts" is not the way to fix our spiraling debt crisis. Take the short term pain and DO IT NOW! No more screwing around, no more delays, no more lies. FIX IT! Be bold! We don't need "slut puppies" in Washington right now - we need bold, decisive leaders. If we fall back into the Matrix after this week, God help us, God help our children, and God help our Republic.
