Rising Sea Levels....(or not)

"And if....mankind had been around for millions of years and had recorded history, I am sure it would not be the first (or last) time the sea levels have changed."

I am so sick of hearing about rising sea levels, I could puke. All the panic merchants in the climate change club are rubbing their worry stones, and popping Tums like candy. I just read an article recently where many of the low lying areas on the east coast might be in danger. And if....mankind had been around for millions of years and had recorded history, I am sure this would not be the first (or last) time sea levels have changed.

I have a number of observations. First off as a midwesterner, I grow tired of the haughty nature of many of those who live on the east coast or the left coast. So pardon me if I don't feel too awful bad about them losing some valuable beach area. I am sure they will survive, as this catastrophic event is absolutely slower than molasses. In other words, it is not exactly a tsunami.

Next (and I have addressed this many times before), having more sea water is not a bad thing for folks who live by the ocean and suffer from dry or droughty weather. We have had the technology for years how to manufacture fresh and/of potable water out of sea water. And we will NEVER run out of sea water. California just by itself has hundreds of miles of coastline. And as we know, that state often needs more water.

Finally (and this is the big one), there is not a thing we can do about it. Don't believe those greenies when they tell you riding your bike to work in the middle of the winter can save the planet. It won't. This country is doing just fine thank you, on cutting back on our dreaded "carbon footprint". It is called technology improvements.

It is China that is the biggest culprit. They don't have to start cutting back on carbon emissions for fifteen years or so. Meanwhile they (along with India), are going to be putting a zillion tons of garp in the air from all those coal fired power plants. And if you think China is going to give up on economic growth to save a few feet of shoreline, you are sadly mistaken.

As a former sailor, I like the beach. The only problem is living in the center of the country, beaches are a long drive. With global warming and rising sea levels, maybe the drive will not so far in the future.
