Do you hear the people sing?

"People in Hong Kong - the freedom loving people in this world stand with you. Your stand for freedom is not going un-noticed. You are on the right side of history. Please stay strong. May God be with you."

Okay. I will admit it. I am a sucker for a good musical. Especially one which has its roots in history. I have seen Les Miserables many times in my life. And I am not done with it yet. It is a show about the misery in France prior to the French Revolution. It is the story of a people who WOULD NOT BE DENIED their freedom. The pinnacle of the movie (to me) was when the citizens banded together to sign their anthem, "Do you hear the people sing?" It puts a lump in my throat every time I hear it.

Here is something which puts even a bigger lump in my throat. Hong Kong and the contagion of democracy which is burning like wildfire in that world famous city. Not only are the protesters carrying American flags and signing our National Anthem, they are also signing that freedom song from Les Miserables - "Do you hear the people sing?"
In the middle of the tear gas, the water cannons, the strife - demonstrators break out in that heartfelt song about freedom and liberty.

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again

When the beating of your heart
Echos the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes

Will you join our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there is a world you long to see?
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free...

China is going to lose this one. They have no clue what they are up against. The yearning for freedom is a fire which burns hot in the hearts of liberty minded citizens. And most citizens realize once freedom is surrendered, it is very hard to get back. In Hong Kong, like is was in France before the revolution, like is was in America before our revolution, freedom was for all the marbles. Or to quote New Hampshire's motto - "Live free or die".

At what price China, will this all be worth it? People in Hong Kong have peered across the great bridge into Mainland China, and seen the torture, the torment, that many who live there have endured. The people know about the "re-education" prisons. They have heard the stories about involuntary organ harvesting of prisoners. They know about the repression of religious thought and practices. They know about the heavy handed glove, and jack boot of Big Brother. So China, here is the question. Will killing or subjugating a large portion of the population be worth it for you? Will it give you joy? Are you willing to pay the price?

The world is watching President Xi. You are about to once again show your true colors. You are nothing but a brutal, heartless dictator. You are as bad as Mao. Prove me wrong, sir. If you crush this explosion of freedom in Hong Kong, America will extract a steep price from you. This is something which is non-partisan. Americans, regardless of party, HATE jack booted thugs.

People in Hong Kong - the freedom loving people in this world stand with you. Your stand for freedom is not going un-noticed. You are on the right side of history. Please stay strong. May God be with you.
