"Perfect is the enemy of good"

"On the positive side, guess who has just about enough votes right now to become the next Speaker? Hakeem Jefferies. Let that marinate for a while."

I think I have been on this rant before. So, please bear with me just for a bit. I have been a conservative for years - most of my adult life. As a conservative, I vote Republican, as their charter is usually the closest to my conservative values. That being said, Republicans drive me nuts. How so? Let your gaze wander eastward right now, to the House of Representatives. As much as I would love to blame how the House blew up on liberals or socialists, it was all red. 100% Republican. And how did the Republicans do it? Those damn purty tests. McCarthy was not pure enough. Scalice was not pure enough. Jordan was not pure enough. Now we are left with a broken House and a dysfunctional government.

"Perfect is the enemy of good." Anyone who had taken at least one year of business school, has heard at least one of the professors talk about this truism. And the Republican Party is exhibit "A" to this concept. By always striving for the perfect instead of settling for the good, the Republicans have become experts in taking home the silver instead of the gold.

Here is the real sad part of what is happening now. The broken House, and how it broke, is center stage for all to see. If I were an Independent, I would be wondering how in the world this group of misfits were allowed to run anything! With November of 2024 being only a year away, I could not think of a worse time to show the nation the wheels have come off the train.

I would like to recommend a course of action to fix this mess. But you can't un-ring a bell. The damage has been done. Now, for the good of the country, and for the love of God, please elect a SPEAKER! Even the little guy with the bowtie would be fine. ANYBODY! You guys are starting to make Ms. Nancy look good, and she was horrible! After three years of Biden-omics, I really thought the Republicans could waltz into the White House, the Senate and keep the House with limited effort. Now I don't know if they could qualify as dogcatchers.

Meanwhile (not to be an alarmist), we have a war in Israel, a war in Ukraine, the threat of war in Taiwan, the government running out of money, and the 45-day CR running out. All these issues take a functioning House to manage.

On the positive side, guess who has just about enough votes right now to become the next Speaker? Hakeem Jefferies. Let that marinate for a while. While we may be a mile from getting an acceptable Republican in as Speaker, we are only inches away from getting a Democrat. Whose fault is that? Look in the mirror folks. This is on us.

  1. Except that it it was our representatives, not us, who made these choices.

Having conceded the title of Evil Party to the 'Crats, Republicans appear eager to push their claim of being the Stupid Party--a useless victory if ever there was one.

  2. The crazy thing is that McCarthy was ready to pass a really good CR, with border security and significant spending cuts-- practically everything the "perfect enemies of the good enough" claimed to want and now can't deliver.
