"The smart countries right now can sense what is happening. The Golden Age is not just a motto - it is going to be true. For those who desire peace and a better living for all, these are going to be rich years. For those who want to kick sand in the face of America, or who desire war instead of peace - well, good luck with that one."
I have told this story before. Towards the end of my career while employed at Ecolab in St. Paul, Ecolab had an arrangement with a large company based out of India. I was responsible for the execution and maintenance of that agreement. As such, I got to know many of the folks who were living here from India (all legal, on work visas). That really was my first experience in being up close and personal with folks from India. I gained a lot of respect for their acumen, attitudes and work ethic. Nice, nice folks.
Right now, our Veep is just finishing up a trip to India to visit Prime Minister Modi. Why? Negotiating a better trade deal, as the one we have now is substandard at best. However, much progress has been made with India, and it is possible that India might be the "first one out of the box". How do I feel about that? Thrilled. I have thought for years now, having a better military and trade relationship with India could bring us nothing but good.
India and China have a lukewarm relationship. Every now and again, that relationship sours and the bullets start to fly. India matches China in population, and every year India becomes a more dependable offshore mecca. Whereas China will rob our IP blind, India is much more trustworthy. As we start to strip different offshore accounts away from China, I would love to see us not only onshore some of those but also move some to India and Viet Nam (for starters). China? They have had their chance.
Soon, the most favorite countries will start to line up to have their new deals signed. Trump was 100% serious when he said that the first to sign will get the best, and the last will get the least. Negotiations 101. My old contracts friend from Lockheed Martin would always say, "I am going to give you my best offer first. If you reject it, the rest will be all downhill." And he was right.
