Our newest and worst threat

Over fifty years ago, I was stationed on Okinawa - now part of Japan. The Army base that my group was using for living quarters, was located right next to Kadena Air Force Base. Back then, Kadena was one of the major hubs of activity for air ops in the Viet Nam War. In other words, one of the safest places you could be in the Western Pacific, was living under the wing of Kadena. It bristled with B-52 (BUFF) bombers, F-4 Phantoms, and other nasty elements of war. But that was then, and this is now.

In the picture above, was me (the skinny kid) and a roommate I had. The East China Sea lie behind us. Today, China has all but declared the East China Sea and the South China Sea as "lakes" owned and operated by China. And Taiwan is a burr under China's saddle. Taiwan should be a part of China (according to them), and the fact Taiwan is an independent nation with ties to the West - is plain unacceptable to China.

Most military planners know this for a certainty - war with China over Taiwan is coming. And China knows that should they invade Taiwan, help for Taiwan would be coming from the US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the PI. China is particularly concerned with Anderson Air Force Base in Guam and Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa. So much so, it is feared the first strike in Taiwan could include a strike on Kadena and Anderson at the same time. Then we would have a world at war, once again.

Can Kadena and Anderson defend themselves? Hopefully. But China has built an impressive stockpile of DF-16 ballistic missiles. Even with a non-nuclear warhead, these missiles have the range and the punch to make it a very bad day for not only Taiwan but also bases in Japan and Anderson AFB as well. How safe is being stationed on Okinawa today? As safe as being stationed in ground zero.

This is not published much these days, but the Ukrainian War has left Russia wounded and limping. On the other hand, four years of neglect by Joe Biden, has allowed China to go gangbusters in prepping for war. China's Navy has more ships than ours. Let that sink in. As I said, they have thousands of missiles, just ready to do evil things. China is our biggest threat. Not Russia, not Iran. They are all three threats, but China is where the next big war could be.

President Trump said he has a good relationship with Xi of China. Maybe so. I just hope Trump does not trust this guy too much.
