Sometimes a Great Nation

"How do we keep a great nation great? By showing the ones who feel this nation is corrupt and evil the door. Good-bye. No, this nation, the savior of the free world more than once, is not evil and corrupt. Is it perfect? No hardly. But pretty darn good, indeed."

Okay - you caught me. You might think I was stealing Ken Kesey's book title, Sometimes a Great Notion. But I am not. I am just using a version of the title. By the way - loved the book and the movie. Loved the way Ken Kesey wrote.  Anyhow, this title came to me today while reading the op/eds in the morning paper. I was going to write on some history, but that will be soon.

Even though I address this frequently, something always comes up which motivates me to dive in a bit deeper. Like what? Like the rapid decent into total socialism that many who live in the Twin Cities seem to enjoy. The "nut ball" who wrote an article this morning in the paper was either pulling a great prank on everyone, or we are in deeper trouble than I ever thought. Personally, I will vote for Option #2, since this person lives in Minneapolis.

How so, you might ask? First off, he agrees with getting rid of the "terrorist organization" known as ICE. And not replacing it with - anything. Why? Open borders, of course. All borders should be open. Anyone and everyone who wants to come here shall be welcomed with open arms.

But..but..but..how do we pay for all these new people who will be storming our borders? Easy. No sweat. We will (direct quote) just tax the upper 10%, 90% of their wealth. And this Social Security and Medicare? Too much for us wealthy Americans. That will be slashed to help pay for these new "citizens" who are storming our borders.

Wait! Wait! We don't have the housing for all these people! Even when you soak the rich, where will they stay? Our guru from Minneapolis also had a solution for that. Got a guest room? No longer. That room now belongs to an immigrant or refugee. We will be into "house sharing". Of course, you will still be responsible for the mortgage.

Then where will we be headed? Into the land occupied by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Erin May Quade, Alondra Cano and our favorite - Ilhan Omar. You got it. The land of the fruits and nuts. I know - that was California's term. Now it seems to be ours also.

So why did I call this post Sometimes a Great Nation? Because to the patriots, it always has been, is today, and hopefully, will be tomorrow. But to the Loony Left, it is not a great nation. It never has been. An oppressor. A suppressor. A conqueror. A favorite of the fabled "1% Club". These people want to shred our Founding Documents, steal money from the producers, and start all over. Where everyone has the same. Equal outcomes instead of equal opportunity. Guaranteed basic income. Oh, yes - the Left is preaching that also.

Well then - how do we keep a great nation, great? By showing the ones who feel this nation is corrupt and evil - the door. Good-bye. No this nation, the savior of the free world more than once, is not evil and corrupt. Is it perfect? No hardly. But pretty darn good, indeed.

As for me? This is my home, and I love it. Warts and all, it is better than anyplace else. To preserve it, it must be protected. By strong borders and strong and enforceable laws. I guess I will have to go back in the archives for this one. It is as relevant today as it was fifty years ago. "America - love it or LEAVE IT!"

  1. The framers of the Declaration of Independence grasped not only the whole race of man then living, but they reached forward and seized upon the farthest posterity.
They erected a beacon to guide their children and their children's children, and the countless myriads who should inhabit the earth in other ages.
Wise statesmen as they were, they knew the tendency of prosperity to breed tyrants, and so they established these great self-evident truths, that when in the distant future some man, some faction, some interest, should set up the doctrine that none but rich men, or none but white men, were entitled to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, their posterity might look up again to the Declaration of Independence and take courage to renew the battle which their fathers began — so that truth, and justice, and mercy, and all the humane and Christian virtues might not be extinguished from the land; so that no man would hereafter dare to limit and circumscribe the great principles on which the temple of liberty was being built.
    If only......
