The Minnesota Pick-up

"This year, as much as any other, VOTE in November! The Left is back on their heels right now. Here is our chance. Turning MN red means having at least five of the eight Congressional seats and at least one Senate seat. Let's go folks - this could be the Minnesota pick-up!"

As important as our statewide races are, we need to put them aside for a minute. We might have much bigger fish to fry. Like what? Like not only retaining the three congressional seats we have, but then also picking up one to three more. I mean, I am sorry. I would like to say one to five more. I know Jennifer and Greg who are running for CD 5 and CD 4 respectfully. Great people with great hearts - but the deep blue veins of their districts might be hard to overcome. In other words - both CD 4 and CD 5 are replete with "Yellow Dog" Democrats. Too many of them, and not enough of us.

This year, for the first time in forever, Minnesota might be the state which is swimming against the tide - going the right way for a change! In other words, instead of getting ready to suffer under the dreaded "Blue Wave", Minnesota could be having a bit of a Red surge.

As close as we were in picking up CD 8 two years ago, we are even in much better shape this time around. First off, the oldest Hippie in Congress (Rick Nolan) is not running for re-election. Pete Stauber is one of the strongest new candidates in the nation (according to pundits). Pete is on the right side of every issue in CD 8, especially mining. The President made a special trip to Duluth to show support for Pete. If we don't pick this seat up in November, it will be a mystery to many.

We also have EXCELLENT people running in CD 1 and CD 7. Jim Hagedorn and Dave Hughes have hit the ground running, and not stopped since. With Walz gone (thank you!) and  Colin Peterson getting VERY long in the tooth, Jim and Dave could fill these spots in a heartbeat, and will be a NOTICEABLE improvement!

But now for the big "kahuna". Our Senate seats. I don't know Karin Housley very well, but I know of her. I know of her record, and where she stands on important issues. She would be a VAST improvement to the woman from Planned Parenthood who was chosen to "nest egg" the Al "hands" Franken seat. Even the Left leaning paper this morning said that Tina Smith was vulnerable. I agree. This seat FOR SURE, should be a pick up for us in November.

The other seat is a real "wish for" seat for me. I have known Jim Newberger for four or five years. He is not only a friend, and a quality man, when I have had Minnesota energy questions (especially about SHERCO), I go right to Jim. He is hard working, dedicated, and damn smart. Amy on the other hand, has a famous Dad and makes a mean casserole. I would like for Jim to upset Amy - I really would. But people in this state are hung up on name recognition. Sad...

This year would be the year for MN to turn the tables on what happened in 1984. For us old people, that was an embarrassing year. We were the only state not to vote for Reagan. This year however, we could do our President a favor and increase our Red Congressional seat and make at least one of our Senate seats red.

This year, as much as any other, VOTE in November! The Left is back on their heels right now. Here is our chance. Turning MN red means having at least five of the eight Congressional seats and at least one Senate seat. Let's go folks - this could be the Minnesota pick-up!

  1. Can't argue with your analysis, district by district, and Tina Smith is a weak candidate and Housley is tha one with the name recognition that the uninformed will vote for. Good Luck! Maybe by the time our children are our age positive changes will have been made!
