What Shutdown?

"He sometimes listens, but seldom hears..."

Yesterday, our campaigner-in-chief (aka President Bystander) was in Virginia campaigning for the very crooked Terence Richard "Terry" McAuliffe in his race for Governor of Virginia. McAuliffe's opponent is the current Attorney General of Virginia, Kenneth Thomas "Ken" Cuccinelli. While on the "stump" for his good friend Terry, President Bystander did his dead level best to tie Cuccinelli in with the hated (and evil) Tea Party. In fact, he even managed to knit in blame for the two week shutdown that few remember and even less care about.

Mr. President, we all know you love to campaign. You are very good at it. You love to divide us. You are also very good at that. However, you really need to be our President, our Commander in Chief for the next three years. We can no longer afford to have you be President Bystander. We have a huge - no bigger than huge - problem right now with this half baked health care law you forced on the country. It is not working sir. Even your most ardent supporters are starting to see the light. It is a mess, and getting messier.

Today there was a news story about just one of the over three million people who have received "Dear John" letters from their insurance companies. This lady in the news story has stage four cancer. She is being kept alive by hope and an aggressive team of doctors paid for mostly by her insurance company. After December 31st, when her policy is gone, this lady's chances will also be gone. She will most probably die soon thereafter. Mr. President, this is what people care about. Saying this is "just a small number" does not cut it. Reminding the people of Virginia there was a partial government shut down last month does not cut it. Telling people the lie that the Tea Party is evil does not cut it. People dying because of the failure of your health care start up is the issue most people care about.

What can you do to save your legacy? Maybe nothing at this point. However, to have a sliver of a chance, consider the following:
  • Admit the ACA was a mistake the way it was handled. Do a "time out" to fix the plethora of issues. Engage Republicans, using some of their ideas to fix it, and then roll it out again when the time is right.
  • Fire Eric Holder for how he handled the Fast as Furious mess. Find all people responsible for this illegal gun running and get rid of them. Brian Terry as well as the innocent Mexicans who died because of this scheme deserve justice.
  • Do a house cleaning in the State Department. Anyone who knows how to spell Benghazi should be sent packing. We have four dead Americans who will never receive justice at this rate. Make sure Hillary owns most of this debacle.
  • The NSA is a mess. James Clapper should have been fired yesterday. Bring in a MANAGER with intelligence experience to get this very powerful agency under control.
  • Immediately start working with the House and Senate to craft a new, simple tax code. One of the by-products of the new tax code will be the elimination of the IRS. It has become a corrupt and political agency which needs to go, and go now.
That is just a start Sir - you and I both know there is more. You have acted like the fast talking car salesman. Very likable and quick to make a sale. However, when problems pop up after the sale, you are nowhere to be found. We need a total ownership President. One we not only like, but we can trust, and is able to do the job.

People like you Mr. President - however, that capital is starting to wear thin. Now many are able to see you are now, and always have been, ill equipped to handle the job we hired you to do. However, if you change your ways, and change them now, your legacy can still be intact and noble. Failure to do so will put side by side with Jimmy Carter in the history books.
