Another end of session mess?

"The Republicans in the House have done a great job this session of being truth tellers. It is true, their power is very limited being in the minority. But they have been very vocal when their voices needed to be heard. The Senate, using their razor thin majority, has done a yeoman's task in holding off this socialist wave."

Taxing Timmy is not having a good spring so far. For the life of him, he cannot understand why he cannot get his way. After all, the people of Minnesota spoke in November. Plus, Walz has the House and he almost had the Senate. He has progressives and socialists coming out of every nook and cranny in St. Paul. So what gives? Why is this session shaping up to be like the last few sessions? Well Timmy, you can start by looking in the mirror.

I am sorry, the "my way or the highway" does not work well in divided government. Yes, Speaker Hortman is going to bundle up a pile of goo called "omnibus", just like what happened last session under Speaker Daudt. Dayton did not sign it, and rightly so. He basically called the omnibus bill a pile of crap. Walz should follow suit this year. Why? For starters, it violates the "Single Subject Clause" of our Constitution. Even though that does not mean much to many, it should.

And the gas tax increase. A cornerstone of the Walz agenda. All predicated on the I-35 bridge collapse from many years ago. Rather than a design flaw, that bridge collapse is being blamed on the taxpayers. To pay penance for this grievous sin back in 2007, the good people of Minnesota must pay up - NOW!

I know facts are stubborn things, but here are some. First off, our highway fund is in good shape. We don't need any more taxes. And potholes? This is Minnesota. They will be with us every spring, regardless of how much tax is taken in. Duh!

But here comes the whopper. Taxing Timmy wants to raise the gas tax when the entire auto industry is going electric - and soon. How much so? By 2022 (2 1/2 years away), Ford is planning on having 40 new electric models for sale and on the road. And the other car companies have similar plans. What does this mean? Every year, less and less revenue will come in from a gas tax. Why would not a former educator like Taxing Timmy know this? Good question.

The Republicans in the House have done a great job this session of being truth tellers. It is true, their power is very limited being in the minority. But they have been very vocal when their voices needed to be heard. The Senate, using their razor thin majority, has done a yeoman's task in holding off this socialist wave. They really have. If not for the Republicans in the Senate, the taxpayers in Minnesota would be in deep, deep do-do right now.

Get ready for the local fish wrap to blame the Republicans and their constituents for the upcoming end of session mess. How do I know this? Because they do it every year.
