Once upon a time, in the land of stimulus...

"What do you mean they were not 'shovel ready'? Where did all that money go then?"

Well the President has released his 2016 budget, and it is a doozy. It is $3.99T of pork, bacon and lard. I would like to say it has something for everyone, but that would be a lie. If you are at the lower end of the spectrum, our government is once again going to use the tax code as an economic weapon. Take from the rich and give to the poor. Or putting it another way, punish the producers and the makers, and give more to the takers. It is play # 1 out of the Democratic playbook.

One of the real clinkers in this proposal is a "one time tax" on American corporations who have made profits overseas. It seems our Socialists believe this is grossly unfair. So much so, that this new budget proposal has a "one time tax" of 14% on overseas profits. That money is just too tempting. It is low fruit on the trees for an overreaching government. That tax will bring in about a quarter trillion dollars to be used on infrastructure as well as replenish the Highway Trust Fund.

As most of us can remember, in February of 2009 our newly minted President signed into law one whopper of a bill. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (aka Stimulus or as Rush puts it, "Porkulus") had a nifty price tag of only $831B. It was an excellent way to start the massive run up of our National Debt during the Obama Administration. It was sold as a panacea for many of our national ills, specifically infrastructure. It seems that mean old G. W. Bush had not spent enough on roads and bridges during his tenure, and this bill was going to fix all of that. Every Republican saw through this canard and voted against it. Most Democrats did not see through it, and voted for this bill. It became the biggest waste of money in American history.

So now the Democrats are at in again. Begging for money for infrastructure. After stealing from the Highway Trust Fund for decades, they now want more money to replenish it. And to use money from those evil corporations to fund it, makes all the sense in the world to Lefties.

I really don't want this to sound insulting, but I must get very, very basic when I am taking to someone who has no work experience other than being a community organizer. In this country, corporations are here by choice - they do not have to stay here. If the burden of doing business becomes too great, they can leave and go elsewhere. There are many countries who would love to have a GE, IBM, 3M or Ecolab. We can tax them to the gills, and then call them selfish, mean, stingy or whatever. In turn, they can just leave. Take their jobs and revenue with them. More wagon pullers gone.

The difference between the Stimulus Bill of 2009 and this 2016 Budget bill is only one of numbers. In 2009, the Republicans were in the minority in both the House and Senate. This time around it is just the reverse. In 2009, as this king of pork was being steamrolled through Congress, all the Republicans could do was symbolically vote against the bill. This time around, Republicans can pronounce this bill to be DOA.

It will be interesting to see how many of our citizens are paying attention this time around. How many believe the snake oil sales. How many turn out to be lemmings, just like in 2009. All I can say is do your homework people. The facts are there for all to see. Our big chance to fix our infrastructure, including our electrical grid, came and went in 2009. We do however, know how fast shrimp can go on a treadmill...
