The death of Hollywood

"Hollywood is suffering from mass amnesia. They seem to have forgotten how to make a good movie."

It has been a long time coming. In fact, many of us have seen it coming over the horizon. The primadonnas who inhabit tinsel town continue to out do themselves. They are the most monolithic block of voters I have ever seen. Darn near 100% liberal. And if you don't agree with them, well - you are a moron. Or a Neanderthal. Or a troglodyte. Or a sexist. Or a racist. Or you just name the group.

For the life of me, I don't understand why they just don't stick to their craft and stop lecturing us. Some are pretty fair actors. A couple are superb. Then again, you have people like Lena Dunham who have zero talent. Na-da. In any event, even the ones with some talent become smaller in many eyes when they constantly pontificate their political views. So much so, I have talked to quite a few people who have either sworn off Hollywood, or at least refuse to watch the movies or shows these spouting liberals star in.

Don't get me wrong. There really are a handful of conservative actors. A couple are even brave enough to come out of the closet (so to speak). However, others of the conservative ilk tend to keep their heads down and their mouth's shut. The fear of recrimination is enormous. Or to be ostracized. Or maybe even black listed. So much for free speech in Hollywood. That door only swings one way.

One of my friends on the Left has recently schooled me on this issue. "You know Bird, they have the right to say what they want to." And my friend is right. They do have the right to say what they want to, when they want to, and to whom they want to. I also have rights. I have the right to turn the channel. Or turn off the TV. Or not see a movie.

However, a social media friend gave me a completely different idea. Ignore what they say. He said, "Just remember this - we crank the organ box to make the music so they can dance to it." Bingo. They are just here to entertain us. Who gives a flip how they feel or what they think. If we don't crank the organ box (buy tickets to see them), the dance stops. We are in control - not them.

One final thought about Hollywood. Both my wife and I have noticed this over the recent years. Hollywood is suffering from mass amnesia. They seem to have forgotten how to make a good movie. Re-makes, cartoons which come to life, prequels, sequels, blah, blah, blah.

Nothing new under the sun. No imagination. Who ever said movies "ain't like they used to be", was not whistling Dixie." Hollywood might be getting ready to ride off into the sunset.
