Is this another "Great Awakening"?

"An interesting thing happens when the Gospel is preached as it should be. Grace, justification, forgiveness, repentance. The churches who preach the real Gospel seem to be on the grow."

According to the History Channel, the first Great Awakening happening in the American colonies between 1730 and 1740. Why? Secular rationalism had been emphasized, and faith in God had grown stale (sound familiar?). Then all of a sudden, people started finding their faith roots once again. It was a movement which quickly spread over the entire slate of colonies.

There were many heroes of the first Great Awakening back then. John Calvin and Jonathan Edwards just to name a couple. What they preached was the right stuff. The real deal. They were almost modern day versions of the Apostle Paul, as Edwards preached that justification was achieved by faith alone. Justification through faith, not through deeds. Bingo!

Have you heard what is happening at Asbury University? Some are equating it with a modern day revival. All of a sudden, a non-stop worship venue started to happen. It happened, and happened, and happened. People from all over the world have been drawn there. What is going on? Why? Guess what? It might be happening here also.

Last week, there was a mid-week service at a small but growing church in Blaine, MN. A fairly large group of worshippers showed up - about 500. The service was about an hour long (they do this service a couple times a year). At the end of the service, the pastor invited anyone who wanted to stay for continued worship, could do so. Last week, 400 out of the 500 people stayed after to continue worship! It finally concluded about 9pm. Why? Was it planned? Nope. Just like Asbury, it just happened!

An interesting thing happens when the Gospel is preached and proclaimed as it should be. Grace, justification, forgiveness, repentance. The churches who preach the real Gospel seem to be on the grow. Churches who believe in a trendy, PC'd, watered down theology, scarcely deeper than a Dr. Phil show, are not doing so well.

God is on the go, God is on the grow. If these are in fact our final days, it might be a good time to get re-ignited with the right kind of church. One that preaches and proclaims the real truth. If you are a bit fuzzy on what the real truth is, just pick up God's Word and read it. It is all there. Trust me, it is all there.
