The new day of "he said, she said"...

"Going forward, do we want to be like Harvey was with women? Absolutely not! However, being a bit more like Vice President Pence might not be a bad idea."

Oh my! How the mighty seem to be falling! What we have right now in this country, is a long over due reckoning. However, we need to make sure this reckoning does not turn into a feeding frenzy. Why is that? We need to make sure we don't practice "ready, fire, aim". In other words, if there is an accusation of ANY type of misconduct, we need to make sure this allegation has some proof. Otherwise, this can easily turn into a McCarthyism type of sexual witch hunt.

Just to set the record straight, I am TOTALLY against sexual harassment. Of all kinds, including this new thing called "sexting". As we know, sexual harassment (of all kinds) has been going on for years in Hollywood, the government, business, education, you name it. And to be accused of it without proof, results in the old "she said, he said" conundrum. (Actually in Hollywood, it can also be "he said, he said".)

I find it very interesting that the Left got all over Mike Pence when he said he would not share a meal with a woman unless his wife was present. The Left thought that was quaint or even Puritanical. I think it was smart. Why? Temptation lurks around every corner. Most men know how to handle it - some don't. Some, like our friend Harvey, abused it to the max. What Mike Pence has done is take any chance of being accused of sexual impropriety out of the picture. Whereas some men like skating on thin ice, Pence likes his ice a mile thick.

The "me too" movement in Hollywood is far from over. The sexual peccadilloes ( and worse) have been going on for decades now. The guilty will continue to be accused by the brave. The mood for forgiveness all the way from Hollywood to Washington is almost non-existent. If there is a shred of evidence against you - you are toast. Your career will be past tense. You reputation will be in tatters, and if the offense was bad enough, you might also serve time.

Men - if you have strayed off the line a bit in the past, learn from it. Know the temptation is always "out there", and what the warning signs are. Treat all women in the workplace with the same honor you treat your wife with. The reckoning for the guilty will be over soon. We need to learn from it. We need to be better because of it.

Going forward, do we want to be like Harvey was with women? Absolutely not! However, being a bit more like Vice President Pence might not be a bad idea.

  1. I certainly have to agree with your premise that an accusation doesn't imply guilt.
But I also hope the accused that are truly guilty are punished.
Now it has hit the Minnesota Legislature.
    re: Pence
The big problem with Pence is the vast empty space between his ears and the articulation of thoughts formed in that space.
His biblical bromides make Ned Flanders of “The Simpsons” sound like Voltaire.
And because his mind is closed to rational thought outside his theocratic construct, everything he says comes out like platitudinous mush.
I’m not against people of faith in public life.
The left should be faulted for intolerance of those who express belief in a higher power or religious tradition.
But I’m with the first Catholic president, John F. Kennedy, who famously said, “I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute.”
    In that, he stood.
Have a great day, the warm-up is coming!

  2. and the first of many GOP comments about the Mpls election results.................................................
Republican Rep. Mary Franson of Alexandria posted a tweet on her personal account after two transgender candidates were elected to the Minneapolis City Council this week. It read, “A guy who thinks he’s a girl is still a guy with a mental health condition.”
Couldn't expect any less from her.

  3. 45 suggested on Saturday he's done confronting Russian President Vladimir Putin over his country's election meddling since it's insulting to the Russian leader.
We may as well shut down the US Intelligence Services until he is out of office.
