We are living though historic times. In so many ways. One of those ways, are the super high temps in the Pacific northwest. They were the highest ever recorded this past week. Wait - in the Pacific northwest? Isn't that the land of clouds, mist and rain? Sure is. But this past week, the temps eclipsed 110 - and hit those temps in more than one day. In an area of the country where air conditioning is seldom needed, the temps in Portland, Oregon were similar to temps in Phoenix this time of year.
This past week was a mess. It was a mess up in the northwestern part of our country, and the southwestern part of Canada. In Canada, hundreds died. Maybe the true number of people who died from the heat, may never be truly known. Why? Many were elderly. In Washington and Oregon, the same holds true. Dozens died. Over a thousand were taken in emergency centers due to the heat. Cooling centers were set up, and soon became full up. Cooling centers? In the Pacific northwest? Hard to believe.
Get ready folks. The climate change fanatics are going to glom onto this past week, and make it exhibit "A" to their argument. Okay - I will bite. I will for sake of this this article, agree it is climate change, manmade climate change to be exact, which caused the Pacific northwest to heat up so much. In that case, I am all for going after the biggest villain of climate change. That would be the CCP of China.
As you can see from the above graph, the four largest contributors of carbon emissions are shown. Wow - take a look at China! They are running away with the race! Meanwhile, the US and the EU have leveled off or are leveling off. India, a "Johnny come lately" to this party, is also increasing. But everyone looks tame compared to China. And since the world gave China a "pass" during the Paris Accord, China is just going to get worse and worse, all the time.
Bottom line? Slo Joe can try to drag our economy back into the stone ages, and China will continue to go great guns. Manmade climate change will continue. That is - if manmade climate change is real. Or if the climate is just "changing", because that is what climate does. Meanwhile, pray for our brothers and sisters in the Pacific northwest. We still have a whole lot of summer remaining.
