"Well, this charade is almost over. Every Democrat on the committee will give thumps down, and it will go to the Senate for a full vote. In the Senate vote, again, every Democrat will vote no. If the Red Team holds together (and there is no indication they will not), Judge Cavanaugh will be confirmed and then start work when to court resumes session."
Okay - I will admit it. I wasted part of a pretty nice day yesterday watching the clown show - I mean the Cavanaugh hearings on Fox. Between the insipid questions asked by the whiners on the Left, along with the boorish behavior of the protesters, it was almost too much to bear. But - I stuck with it, probably longer than I should have. I won't make that same mistake again.
Two words which kept coming up over and over by the Blue Team, especially by our own casserole queen, were "disturbing and troubling". Seems like everything the good judge has put pen to paper, was described by using one or both of those terms. Actually, I should also throw in the term "concerning". Then it dawned of me. Those terms are right out of the Blue Team's playbook. How do I know? They often use them when describing anything the Red Team does.
However, that is when I had an even deeper revelation. These same words would have been used on the confirmation hearings of Judge Thomas Hardiman. Or, Judge Raymond Kethledge. Or, Judge Amy Coney Barrett. It simply would not matter. Or we could come up with a hundred other jurists who Trump would have nominated. None would have been adequate. Why? None of them are Merrick Garland.
Part of the Blue Team's wrath is directed at President Trump. Why? Because he is Donald Trump. The thief who stole the 2016 election. The other part of the wrath is directed towards that "son of a" Mitch McConnell. That dirty, low down scoundrel who refused to bring Judge Garland up for a vote when Barry was still President. Wah, wah, wah.
Instead, they have decided to besmirch the character of one of the finest men to ever be considered for this court. Is it right? Nope. Is it fair to Judge Cavanaugh? Nope. Actually, I am surprised that the judge did not stand up, request a pause in the hearings from Grassley, and then submit a letter of withdrawal to the President. To be accused of every crime up to and including training Attila the Hun, was way, way beyond the pale or the norm. NOBODY should have had to put up with that kind of treatment!
Well, this charade is almost over. Every Democrat on the committee will give thumps down, and it will go to the Senate for a full vote. In the Senate vote, again, every Democrat will vote no. If the Red Team holds together (and there is no indication they will not), Judge Kavanaugh will be confirmed, and then start work when the court resumes session.
What am I going to do today instead of subjecting myself to more mayhem and rudeness? Have morning coffee with a friend, and then go to the gun range. Sounds like a much better use of a morning to me.
It is a beautiful day to go to the range.
ReplyDeleteThe UC demanded on Friday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions investigate who put a sign reading “Entering Crazytown, U.S.A.” on the door to the Oval Office.
ReplyDeleteThe UC reportedly noticed the sign for the first time Friday morning, and became enraged after asking Kellyanne Conway, the counsellor to the President, to read what it said to him.
According to White House insiders, determining the creator of the sign could prove difficult, because between seventy and a hundred White House staffers have been known to use the word “Crazytown” to describe their work environment.
“Whoever put that sign on my door has committed treason against the United States,” the UC told reporters, before turning away and revealing that someone had put a Post-it reading “President Stupidpants” on his back.
I'll leave it to all the lawyers to parse Judas Kavanaugh's views on everything from privacy rights to gun rights.
ReplyDeleteBut I can promise you that any pretense of simply being a fair arbiter of the constitutionality of any policy regardless of politics is simply a pretense.
He made up his mind nearly a generation ago — and, if he's confirmed, he'll have nearly two generations to impose it upon the rest of us.
Unethical politics or perfect timing
ReplyDeleteIf Kennedy had waited a few weeks, some analysts believe Trump couldn’t have gotten his successor approved before the midterm elections. If the Democrats did well in November, it’s at least conceivable they could have blocked any conservative nominee. Approving a nominee before November means our likely future has the court killing Roe v. Wade, giving more power to corporations, turning the poor and minorities into serfs, exiling or detaining Others the president might choose to torture. That’s huge. But let’s consider the bottom line: For Donald Trump, the only real issue of interest is . . . himself. If a 4-4 Court had to rule on a difficult question -- Does the president have the power to pardon himself? -- it might not go well for Trump.
