Our new America

"I have said this before. The United States of America has become the 'Untied' States of America. It is time for a split. A national divorce. We can't live together anymore. We are about as civil towards each other as the Hatfield's and McCoy's were."

Welcome to America 2.0. We have redefined our national motto to go from e pluribus unum (out of one, many), to something out of a tribal nature. What does that mean? We don't like each other. In fact, some or most of the time, we hate each other. We don't live living close to each other. And when this animus really boils over, is during a national election. The voting part of it? No - the aftermath.

The hatred of Donald Trump by those on the left is a mystery to me. Sure, his tone is often times bombastic and rude, but his results were very good. But if there was someone who is hated more than Satan on this Earth, it would be Donald Trump, hated by the loony left. How much do they hate him? Should he evade all the legal bear traps which have been set for him, and he goes on to win the general election, all hell could break loose.

On the other hand, we have Joe Biden. We all knew when Biden won the last election under the pall of something smelling like dead fish, things would change in our country. We knew that things would go down a degree or two from the economy Trump had built up. However, we had NO IDEA Biden would take this country down a hundred degrees or so. That he would bring us to the brink of nuclear war. That he would allow an invasion of our southern border. That he would inflate the cost of eggs to $10/dozen in many parts of the country. If we could have seen our future on that November day in 2020, there might have been a REAL insurrection. Why? The country was worth saving.

What is going to happen to us the day after the election? Will we all just smile, pat each other on the back and exchange good wishes? Or will the hand patting us on the back contain a shiv, ready to do us in. Will the cost of defeat leave such an acerbic taste in our mouths, that it can only be quenched by bloodshed and mayhem? Will martial law be declared? A state of emergency? Or will we be one inch closer to the abyss, with no national disruption.

I have said this before. The United States of America has become the "Untied" States of America. It is time for a split. A national divorce. We can't live together anymore. We are about as civil towards each other as the Hatfield's and McCoy's were. As Bernardo said in West Side Story, "You hate us, and we hate you right back".

But what is the difference between our country and the story told in West Side Story? In West Side Story, there was not a happy ending, but a hopeful one. With our national election, maybe our ending will be neither happy nor hopeful.
