Timing is everything

"What is our saving grace? President Trump has surrounded himself with time tested generals. As former flag officers, they have probably been through the War College more than once. They have "war gamed" North Korea for years. We have come to expect the unexpected."

Here we sit on a Labor Day weekend, possibly on the precipice of war. What? Is that histrionics Bird? Really! No, I am dead serious. After this morning at the UN, it is now check and checkmate. It is Kim's call. If he launches the missile he is supposedly getting ready, the "ship could hit the sand" shortly thereafter. Or - he might do something far more sinister than launch another missile.

Why do I say that? Timing. And timing is everything. This country is still reeling from the Houston hurricane. There are massive wildfires out west which are consuming time and expense to control. A new hurricane, possibly even stronger than the last one looks like it has finally made up its mind. Right now either Florida or the Carolina's could take a bad hit.

We have two of our DDG Destroyers which are in port for repairs from recent collisions. Our military is scrambling to get up to readiness, as after eight years of Obama, our military was continuously under-funded and therefore under-trained.

We have a new Administration with many new people in new spots. Congress is just staggering back to work after having an obscenely long vacation. The Democrats and Republicans are acting more like the Crips and the Bloods than colleagues. Plus they have a butt load of work to get done in a very short time.

Why do I bring all these things up? Because if we in the mid-west, just reading the paper or watching the news know this stuff, what about the North Korean war planners? The first rule of any battle is to hit them where they least expect it and where they are least prepared. That is why I am nervous right now. This would be the perfect time to do something stupid.

What is our saving grace? President Trump has surrounded himself with time tested generals. As former flag officers, they have probably been through the War College more than once. They have "war gamed" North Korea for years. We have come to expect the unexpected.

How will this end up? I have no clue. I am hoping against hope the Chinese get through to him before he launches. I really don't want to see a bunch of innocent civilians within 50 miles of the DMZ get killed because of this crack pot kid. He may not cherish innocent life, by many of the rest of us do.
