"You have been Governor, had a tepid run for President, and then made a few million working in the swamp. Okay - we get it. You are a man for all seasons. What we are asking now is you be a man for one season - the season of the SOS."
I have said in the past, Mary Giuliani Stephens would make an excellent Secretary of State. Before anyone thinks I am trying to sweep Mary over into the ash heap of nothingness, let me first remind you of the shenanigans pulled in the Al Franken election and Tom Emmer for Governor elections. With a good solid person of principle as our SOS rather than Mark Richie, we might not have had a Senator Franken, a Governor Dayton, or (get ready for this!) - ObamaCare.
I like Mary. She may be a bit left of where I stand, but I still like her. And I think she would fit in someplace important, very nicely. But she (so far) has had ZERO interest in the SOS spot. This, it sits vacant. Ready for Steve Simon to take it again, (un-opposed).
Enter our former Governor, Tim Pawlenty. Back from a brief hiatus on Wall Street. Wondering what he could do to help the team. After all, he has not done much to help since he has left MN. But who cares? The past is in the past - right? Now he has a GOLDEN opportunity to really help the team. Run for the SOS position! There nobody in there right now from our side. He could go directly to the general and beat the tar out of Steve Simon. The pay might be less than the Governor pay, but who cares? Tim has already hit his gold mine on Wall Street!
Did Tim do that? Nope. Why? You tell me. A "team player" would have. I would like to think Tim has not become such an egomaniac that if he does get the "big chair", all the other chairs are worthless. Tim, Tim, Tim - you know from your experience in MN politics how important the SOS position is! We have great candidates running for Auditor and AG. Help us out with the SOS spot. We have the Governor thing handled just fine, thank you.
You have been Governor, had a tepid run for President, and then made a few million working in the swamp. Okay - we get it. You are a man for all seasons. What we are asking now is you be a man for one season - the season of the SOS. Think about it Tim. We would much rather work with you than against you. But if we have to work against you, we will.
