The North Korea shuffle...

"But the history of dealing with these guys is not good. From Kim to his daddy to his grand-dad. Not good. But then again, they are dealing with Donald Trump right now. He ain't no Jimmy Carter - that is all I will say."

There are many times I wish I were a fly on the wall. A fly? Why? To ease-drop. I would have loved to hear the conversation between Mike Pompeo and Little Kim. It was like, all of a sudden, Little Kim went from a life of total debauchery to finding the Lord. Yes, the turn around in North Korea is that amazing. Or is it?

I am reminded of that old saying, "If it sounds to good to be true, then it probably isn't." After the Pompeo visit, North Korea suddenly has dropped all its conditions to disarm. Huh? Those were cast in stone for years! What you mean "dropped"? First, they will stop testing of all ICBM rockets and nukes. Without asking anything in return - including their biggest bug-a-boo - our troops being stationed in the South.

Now, as we all know, North Korea has a long and distinguished history of making us look like fools. They are accomplished liars and cheats. Either Pompeo threw the fear of Almighty into Little Kim, or North Korea is playing us (again). But that is why I wanted to be a fly on the wall. Did we promise Kim the Moon and back if he behaves? Did we threaten him with destruction if he does not? Both, or neither?

The glass half full in me hopes the following to happen this year:

  • North and South Korea sign an agreement to end this ancient war.
  • A process to re-unify the two Korea's is put in place.
  • The United States starts to pull troops out of South Korea.
  • The people in North Korea finally start to see more freedoms.
The glass half empty in me believes the following will happen this year:
  • North and South Korea sign an agreement to end this ancient war.
  • North Korea continues its nefarious WMD programs in the dark of night.
  • The United States finds out and the "ship really hits the sand".
Time will tell. I really am hoping that we will end up with the glass half full, or at least something close. But the history of dealing with these guys is not good. From Kim to his daddy to his grand-dad. Not good. But then again, they are dealing with Donald Trump right now. He ain't no Jimmy Carter - that is all I will say.

  1. Half full, with one caveat, SK and NK only negotiate with each other, with China, Japan, Russia and US as interested observers. US gets involved only re: removal of UN sanctions and US troops.
If we try to do anything on SK behalf (try to play big brother), it won't work. President Moon doesn't trust us or our tactics.

  2. Meanwhile,
To avoid the economic horror scenario of spiraling federal debt, substantial entitlement reforms are necessary.
Indeed, it will be hard to give DIC's administration a pass grade if it takes no action on this front.
DIC talks alot about the failure of previous administrations failures and on this one, he would be correct.
Tax Scam, low unemployment, high consumer confidence ARE NOT going to fix this problem.
Without a fix, the nation has little hope of avoiding a fiscal crisis. Maybe the environmental problems won't look so bad when we are fiscally floundering like Greece or Argentina.
Not that you’d know it from the evening news.
