The Longest View...

"Every day which goes by, I am happier, and happier we have a 'long view' guy like Donald Trump as POTUS. What would Hillary do if she were our POTUS? Please - don't ask!"

For those who were watching today, you might have become dizzy looking at the market. And it was due MOSTLY to one reason - the new proposed tariffs on China. After that, there was their response - more retaliation. The hand wringers started to utter that very secret and obscene phrase - TRADE WAR!!! With a trade war, come lower exports and higher costs and prices. Oh, please - make this go away!!

If we are concerned about the vicissitudes of the market, we should have elected a day trader. But we did not. We elected a guy who wanted to be a fixer. A guy who has a history in building stuff and real estate. In short - we elected a guy who has the long view instead of someone who is only looking at the next quarter, or shorter.

What does that mean? Donald Trump is worried more about the foundations of our economy than short term market watching. He knows our trade imbalance needs to be fixed - and now. If he was a short term guy, he would be much more worried about initiating tariffs AFTER the midterms. That would be better for him and his party in the midterms. But he cares about America more. This could not wait. So the tariffs were announced, and the market tanked. 

This is the reason America elected Donald Trump. He is not owned, and he never looks short term. He knows what it will take to make America great again. Some of it will be sweet, and some sour. Will it cost some losing or gaining seats in the midterm? Whatever. But that is not as important as making American strong and great again. If we wanted a poll driven man like last time, we elected the wrong person.

Fixing our military, fixing our economy, fixing our tax system, and then our infrastructure - this is all stuff that matters to Donald Trump. Someone recently asked me if our debt mattered also. I said it did - but first things first. Under Obama, our military shrank, our cities crumpled, and our economy sucked - and the debt still went up. Donald Trump wants to fix our debt, but these other things matter first.
