"Even though some think that picking a 'religion' is like going to Baskin Robins and picking an ice cream flavor you like - it is not like that at all."
I heard something on the news yesterday which really stopped me in my tracks. The newest fad for vapid thinking children who reside in our upper educational institutions. Young Christian women are becoming Muslims and wearing a hijab. All because of this false notion of Israel being bad guys, and Hamas doing nothing wrong. So, to show support for the colorful Palestinian flag, and wearing some kind of cloth on their heads, these young women have given up their Christian faith.
By the way, it might seem "cool" to do this while living in America, but many of these young women have no idea of the subjugation that many Muslim women suffer under in Muslim countries. Women are indeed second-class citizens and are considered more property than individuals.
This might sound preachy to some, so I will apologize in advance. Even though some think that picking a "religion" is like going to Baskin Robins and picking an ice cream flavor you like - it is not like that at all. There is a HUGE difference between a "religion" like Islam and having a relationship with Jesus Christ. If you are a non-believer, you might want to skip ahead.
I remember when Keith Ellison gave up his Catholic faith to become a practicing Muslim. I could not understand it. Not a bit. For Christians, to be in the faith, is something more precious than gold. It is the highest gift we could have. If you belong to a church which does not teach or preach that, it might be a good idea to find a new church. But to give that up, just to wear a hijab, and be "in with the in crowd", really mystifies me.
If you know of someone who has been swayed by the crowd and had converted away from the faith - please pray for them. If you know of someone who is not in the faith or has any religion - please pray for them. If you know of someone who is in the faith but being led astray by false teachings (the Bible said this would happen in the final days), please pray for them. Yes, it is that important.
How do I know my faith is the right way to go? Once you accept Christ, you will know it. Plus, we have been given ten commandments and one commission. That commission is the Great Commission, given to us by Jesus before He ascended. And that Great Commission is to spread the Word of God. The Good News of Jesus. And it is nothing to be squeamish about - we celebrate His birth every December 25th. By the way - that is coming up shortly. Time to start the celebration. Time to spread the Good News.
