The border wall

"There was a news article this weekend about what a mess our southern border is right now. Like, all of a sudden, a mess. That is because Slo Joe is dismantling everything good that Donald Trump did to get our southern border under control." 

Great news! The border wall is going to start building this year! It will stretch for 236 miles, and the main purpose will be to stem illegal immigration and drug trafficking. It makes sense does it not? I mean, after all, you have a poor nation which shares a border with a much richer nation. The richer nation must crack down on illegal intrusions into and unto their sovereign soil.

What is that you say? Slo Joe cancelled our border wall? I know that. I am talking about the island of Hispaniola, which divides the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic has had just about enough, and has decided to build a wall to keep illegal Haitians out of their country. The seem to "get it" - why can't Slo Joe? I know, I know. Slo Joe is owned by special interests. Who cares if getting rid of our semi-built border wall is bad for America? 

I remember the neighborhood we lived in before we had kids. We had a neighbor who was VERY intrusive. No courtesy, no manners. Finally, one day I told him we were going to build a privacy fence around the back yard. I lied, by telling him it was to keep our kids corralled once they came along. It was really to keep him out of our yard when we wanted privacy. When I told him, he looked at me oddly. "I have kids, and I don't have a fence." I assured him it would be fine, and the fence would be attractive. Besides, I told him - "Good fences make good neighbors." He did not buy it.

In any event, it worked. The fence went up, and when we wanted to be social, we invited him over. When we did not want to be social with him, it kept him out. That is the way it is with immigration. When a country wants to be "social" with citizens from another country, they offer tourist visas. When a country wants to invite citizens from another country to live within its borders, it offers a path to citizenship. Should a country NOT want citizens from another country to breach its borders, it needs a fence, or some other kind of deterrent.

The good people in the Dominican Republic must be looking at us right now, and shaking their collective heads. Rubes - we look like rubes. 

Maybe that will be Slo Joe's legacy. Taking the citizens from the shining city on the hill, and making them look like rubes. Thanks Joe - thanks for nothing, you moron!
