Showdown in Milwaukee

"And one more thing. Donald Trump has every right to take a pass on this debate. With the Deep State trying to convict him of over 90 charges, it is okay for Trump to sit this one out."

I guess it is time to get real. The great 2024 presidential race is about to grow some legs. No more "beauty shows" at state fairs or on TV interviews - now it will be face to face with questions coming from experienced moderators. I am actually really looking forward to Wednesday night, when it will be on TV. I would be looking forward to it more however, if Donald Trump was part of it. But I understand why he is not.

I can't imagine there will be any acrimonious exchanges between participants. It is possible, but most of the folks running for president are decent people. Maybe Chis Christie might throw a few barbs at DeSantis. Maybe. Or (my hope) is the target of their positions will be Slow Joe Biden. I am tired of Republican circular firing squads. We know who the enemy is, and he or she is not wearing red.

Actually, as much as I am looking forward to the first Republican debate, I am looking forward to the first Democrat debate almost more so. Why? I will enjoy RFK Jr. telling the king he is naked. Most Democrats give Biden a wide berth and way too much grace. Not Kennedy. He will tell it like it is. Seeing how Biden will react to that blistering attack will be one of those kodak moments. Joe might end up walking off the stage, escorted of course, by "Doctor" Biden.

Besides Trump, who do I like out of all the candidates? Just about all of them. Most agree that Vivek is the rising star in the party. Tim Scott has total class. Nicki Hally has vast experience. Ron DeSantis has performed nothing short of a miracle in turning Florida red. I even like the governor of North Dakota. The rest of the group basically have zero chance, and it is time to pack it in.

One bit of advice to Ron DeSantis. If you become the target of some barbs on Wednesday night, get ready to return some fire. But do it like Ronald Reagan would have done it. With humor and class. We have a spirited debate without going into the mud bath. That is what the party loyal want to see.

And one more thing. Donald Trump has every right to take a pass on this debate. With the Deep State trying to convict him of over 90 charges, it is okay for Trump to sit this one out. So don't target Trump with any barbs. That would be very cheap when Trump is not there to defend himself. If you want to take him on, do it face to face (if you dare).
