Is this the end of the battle tank?

"...tanks are no longer the behemoth of the battle field. Instead, they will have become large metal coffins, for the poor soldiers who happen to be inside of them. In fact, if I dare say this, the decade of the 2020's might be the last for the almighty tank."

I have wondered as of late, how the now famous Coalition/Iraqi tank battle of the Desert Storm War of 1991, would have turned out if it happened today. Would the Coalition have needed all that armor to defeat Saddam's army in record time? Or would there have been a different solution on the battlefield? After seeing what is happening to tank warfare in Ukraine, I think the battlefield would have looked much, much different.

I saw an interesting video on YouTube a couple months ago. It showed a transport plane, dropping hundreds of tubes on a field. The tubes, once they were embedded in the field, became dormant as they blended in nicely with the surroundings. And there they sat, until sensors in the tubes, picked up the sound of approaching tanks. Then when the tanks were close enough, the tubes became activated. They became missile launchers and attacked the tanks. It was a slaughter of the tanks.

That is a technology which we might have operational by the end of this decade. Or sooner. Couple that technology with all of the new and improved suicide drones and missiles, and all of a sudden, tanks are no longer the behemoth of the battle field. Instead, they will have become large metal coffins, for the poor soldiers who happen to be inside of them. In fact, if I dare say this, the decade of the 2020's might be the last for the almighty tank.

In fact, I will take another leap. I think most everything involving warfare is going to change this decade. Our new F-35 and F-22 5th generation fighters, which are so wonderful, soon will be so yesterday. The new and much improved 6th generation jets, will be all that and a bag of chips. Faster, stealthier, deadlier, and maybe autonomic. I have seen artist renderings of how a 6th generation jet might look. Hint: They will look NOTHING like the F-35 or F-22.

The dream I have had for a while now, is soon all the horrible weapons we have used in the past will be made obsolete. Obsolete by the fact defenses against any of them, would be absolute. And that would include nuclear missiles and bombs.

We might actually end up in a world without war due to the cleverness of our AI. Or, as in the decades old movie War Games, the AI might end up controlling and maybe even eliminating us. What is coming up will be a strange new world, or a brave new world. Whatever it will be, it is approaching very fast.
