A coming pandemic?

"How bad could it get? As bad as one could imagine, and then worse..."

There are times in the past week when I feel like I am having an out of body experience. I am watching a movie instead of living in this reality. Something like the Ebola virus, even though it has been around for years, is poised to become the instrument of "culling the herd". In other words, just like the Spanish Flu or the Bubonic Plague, it could wipe out millions of human beings.

I would love to be like Alfred E. Newman right now and just say, "What, me worry?" I could do that if we had some viable leadership in our country. As much as I hate to say it, the man heading up our CDC right now reminds me of Michael Brown who headed up FEMA during Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Thomas Frieden looks just as lost as "Brownie" did during the hurricane. He is making it up as he goes. To be fair, so is the President. Not only do they not know all the answers, they are also lying to us.

Thank goodness the World Health Organization (WHO) is not. They are calling a spade a spade. Today they told the press if we are unable to control the spread of this disease in Africa, the numbers of new cases could hit 10,000 a week in two months. If that happens, we will be on a freight train with no brakes.

Marine Corp General John Kelly, the Commander of the U.S. Southern Command, recently said what we witnessed with the avalanche of undocumented children coming through our southern border could be repeated if the Ebola virus starts to spread. This is what keeps him up at night. Only this time it will not be children from Central America - it will be sick Africans, coming into South and Central America to start their journey north. Everybody in the world is aware of our porous southern border.

To make matters worse, Rush had an American doctor on his show today who has studied this virus for years. What he said was jaw dropping. He said people can become infectious even when they are asymptomatic. In other words, right now we are checking people's temperature at five airports in the United States. Someone could look and feel fine, with no temperature, and still be spreading the disease. We could have already let the genie out of the bottle.

What can we do? Protect your family. Get ready to hunker down and bunker down. If the WHO is right, we could be in for a very rough ride right after Christmas. We need to force our leaders to shut down the borders. Period. Just like after 9/11. Stop any flights from coming in from infected countries.

This will probably be all over the news tonight. If it is not, it should be. I have said before, we need to take the Ebola virus and the spread of ISIL as clear and present dangers to our country. To not do so, lies somewhere way beyond foolish.
