"I really, really hope that President Trump will be good to his word and crack down on sanctuary anythings. If our immigration law is unjust, convince your Congressman (or woman) to sponsor legislation to change it."
I know it is the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor today. Trust me, that has not been lost on me. There have been some excellent articles written about the significance of today by much smarter people than I. That being said, today I am actually going to focus on something quite different than that historical event. I am going to talk about flagrant law breaking - and people being proud of it.
I really did think that civil disobedience had run its course in this country. In the 60's, there was basically a free for all in obeying the law (or not). As most of us know, society does not work very well when part of society decides to live outside the law. In fact, living outside of the law is where the term "outlaw" came from. And today, being an outlaw is no different than any other time in our history.
What I would like to know is simply this - where the Sam Hill do organizations or cities get off thinking they can harbor outlaws? In any law book, that type of behavior is called being an accomplice. Or putting it another way - if you are an accomplice, you too become an outlaw.
First it was cities (mostly deep, deep blue cities) who decided they would shelter illegal aliens from authorities. That poor decision resulted in the death of Kate Steinle in a west coast city. The illegal alien who killed her (for no reason), was living in a sanctuary city.
Then some of the socialist colleges and universities also decided it would be cool and noble to harbor illegals. And today in the paper, there was a story about churches in some cities also joining in.
Now I will repeat what I have said many, many times in my blog postings. I am not against immigration. My great-grandparents were immigrants. Just about all of us have immigrants in our family tree somewhere. That being said, we have a good immigration system. But -for those who chose not to follow this legal system, do that at their own peril.
I really, really hope that President Trump will be good to his word and crack down on sanctuary "anythings". If our immigration law is unjust, convince your Congressman (or woman) to sponsor legislation to change it. Then is enough in Congress and the Senate vote for it (and if President Trump signs it), it will then be the new law. Until that happens however - we have existing and standing immigration laws.
For those who sponsor sanctuary "anythings" - beware. After January 20th of next year, your world might look a whole lot different.
It's Kate STEINLE, by the way. Other than that, right on.
ReplyDeleteThat said, churches alone have the legal and moral right of sanctuary, so long as the person never leaves the church-- a rather expensive proposition and to what purpose?
