The coming electric nightmare...

"In any event, I am now going to power off my laptop, head out into the kitchen and start my electric range top to make some breakfast. What would I be doing today without my fossil fuel generated power? Not much."

Anyone who happened to be watching the national news last night, saw a whole bunch of New York folks collectively wetting their undies. Why? Their power went out. Took out a big section of downtown, just when the night life on a Saturday night was in full swing. Anything which had anything to do with electricity, was dead on the tracks - literally. Trains, elevators, whatever - stopped cold, due to no juice. And guess what Earthlings? This is the direction the urban planners are trying to push us all into.

Yesterday I penned an article about how this nation (the globe for that matter) is going head first into electric everything for transportation. The greenies have us convinced that (as ALGORE would tell us), "the Earth has a temperature". Frightened by impending doom due to "man made global warming", we are trying to "deep six" anything carbon based which gives us power, and replace it with this immature technology called "renewable". The problem? Most honest scientists will tell you the amount of electricity this country will need, and the amount produced by renewable sources, are not even close at this point in time. Then what?

Here is the problem(s). Besides making electricity scarce by getting rid of coal, oil and natural gas, we STILL have an electric grid maintained by spit and bubble gum. Yes, it is that old and fragile. EMP continues to be a threat, be it natural or unnatural. Our good friend Sol (our sun), could give us a well placed flare which would really do a job on our grid. Or so could the North Koreans, the Russians or the Chinese with a well place atmospheric atomic detonation. What then for the city dwellers who are 100% dependent on electricity? In the service, it is called being S.O.L.

I have written about this before. We ARE approaching the end of carbon based fuels. The next big thing is right around the corner - just not the next corner. Because of this irrational fear of man made global warming, we are "over driving our headlights." And because of that, we are putting ourselves at needless risk.

According to the United States Energy Information Association (EIA), by the year 2020, our renewable sources will only be 20% of our energy production - about the same as coal. If the truth be known, we are a long, long way from being energy independent, using only renewable sources. How far away? Using only solar, we would need space the size of Texas to set up enough solar collectors to satisfy our needs. It is worse for wind. And we would need the proper capacitor technology to store enough power when the sun was not out nor the wind blowing. In the UK, the government figured if EVERY roof had a solar collector, it would only take care of 5% of that country's energy needs.

The next time one of your greenie friends starts to blather on about global warming, remind him or her of the facts. We are about to trade the theory of global warming in for the nightmare of electric scarcity. And our urban dwellers who are the the most gullible to this hogwash, will be the ones who will take it the hardest. Karma? Maybe.

In any event, I am now going to power off my laptop, head out into the kitchen and start my electric range top to make some breakfast. Later today, we will get into my gas guzzling truck and meet my daughter for a birthday celebration - at a restaurant powered by electricity. What would I be doing today without my fossil fuel generated power? Not much.

Be funny if it didn't, no matter how we measure it.
