The Bluff at Bluffdale

"Yup - there is big, and there is really big. After that, you have what is going on in Bluffdale..."

One must feel sorry for the small berg of Bluffdale. Here they are, this small village sitting in the shadows of the Wasatch Mountains outside of Salt Lake City, and they have become HUGE news. Was it something they did? Not a bit. It was because for reasons yet to be learned, the very powerful NSA decided to build it's new data center there.

If I said mystery shrouds this yet to open facility, it would be a huge understatement. This new large facility, super large in anyone's language, is set to go on line to accomplish....? That is right - this facility with more computing power and storage capacity that anyone could imagine is set to accomplish an unknown mission.

This new data center, which is rumored to have more storage capacity than any of us could ever imagine, will require enough power to light up a city of 20,000. This is an amazing feat, considering the sleepy little town of Bluffdale has only 8,000 people living there. In addition, there has been a recent "dust up" between the Federal Government and the town mangers over the proposed water requirements of the data center. It is estimated the water required will be 1,000,000 gallons a day! For what? Cooling electrical equipment? That is a whole lot of cheese!

In any event, whatever the mission and purpose of this behemoth is, it will be online soon. To the people at Bluffdale, good luck. Welcome to the world of eminent domain. Most of us fully understand the need for national security, but after the "black eye" the agency received due to the Snowden leaks, a bit more transparency might help with the new Utah neighbors. Our government does after all, work for us. Or does it?
