A national "do-over"?

"If we keep on our present trajectory for the next twenty some days, the drip, drip, drip will continue. The worst of America will be on display for all the world to see. No wonder Russia is threatening to nuke us. They just want to end our suffering."

I will say what many are thinking. This year, maybe more so than any year in our history, we have two candidates running for the highest office in the land with enormous baggage. And every day, it seems the baggage gets heavier. No matter which side of the political divide you might live on, an honest person would agree with me. The revelations which keep coming out about both candidates have been cringe worthy to say the least.

Today the once unbiased (not any more) USA Today called for the Republicans to get Donald Trump out of the race. Like that is really going to happen. When I read the article, the first thought that went through my mind was "why not Hillary also?" Seriously, there is no more need for Trump to leave the race than Clinton - probably less so.

By now, we know quite a bit about the character of both candidates. Donald is a billionaire businessman who has never run for office. He does not smoke, drink nor do drugs. A straight arrow? Not hardly. He is a player. Not a world class player like Bill Clinton is, but a player never the less. And there is probably plenty more tales about the Donald which are yet to come out.

Hillary is an opportunist, a liar and a cheat. She will do or say anything to gain more power and money. She and Bill Clinton abused their power during and after his Presidency to enrich themselves beyond belief. She was derelict in her duties as SOS in both the Benghazi issue as well as protecting vital national secrets on her email. She is corrupt to her very core.

Yesterday, one of the news shows had on a former Sanders supporter trying to defend Hillary. She struggled. After a while in the interview, the moderator asked her the right question - "Don't you wish these revelations about Hillary came out before Bernie left the race?" The Sanders supporter just blushed and smiled. You could tell she was wishing for a "do-over".

That is when I had this thought - what if we as a nation, we all demanded a "do-over". Start from scratch. Have an abbreviated process where two new candidates were picked. The election would be held the second Tuesday in February instead of November. Obama's term would be extended by three months. There would be three national debates, none of which would be moderated by ANYONE in the media.

Now before anyone laughs, thinks I am on drugs, or tells me Constitutionally why this could never happen, consider this. No matter which of these current candidates wins, the war will not be over. The other side will try to poison the winner's Presidency. The ugliness will continue for four or eight years. It will make the eight years of Obama look like a church picnic.

If we keep on our present trajectory for the next twenty-some days, the drip, drip, drip will continue. The worst of America will be on display for all the world to see. No wonder Russia is threatening to nuke us. They just want to end our suffering.
