"My political mentor and I were discussing the latest kerfuffle with Trump the other day. He said one more time (and I agree with him), Trump is a phenomena that came about this cycle for one reason - a totally do nothing Congress."
Should I say what many of us are now thinking? This election so far has been death by a thousand cuts. It has been the drip, drip, drip of water boarding. And we still have almost a month to go. What will happen in that month? One more painful debate, more recordings will be found from many years ago with Donald Trump using salty language, and more leaked emails about Hillary compliments of Wikileaks or the Russians.
With very little time left in this cycle, this is how I sum up the candidates:
- Donald Trump - Business savvy, political neophyte, a "player" with women in his past, and user of nasty and sometimes profane language.
- Hillary Clinton - Opportunist, serial liar, enabler of a philandering husband, probably health issues, business neophyte, open borders advocate and all around phony.
- Tim Kaine - Good Washington and executive experience, but also rude, obnoxious, and a boot licker to Planned Parenthood.
- Mike Pence - Good Washington and executive experience, good Christian man, measured, polite (yet firm), and has the "right look" for the part.
- Gary Johnson - Let me just say this to be kind - does not belong in this race. Maybe does not even live on this planet.
- Bill Weld - Might have been good on a Democratic ticket even though he is a former Republican. On second thought, he might be to "out there" for the Democrats.
- Jill Stein - Once more - let me just say this to be kind - does not belong in this race. Maybe does not even live in this galaxy.
My political mentor and I were discussing the latest kerfuffle with Trump the other day. He said one more time (and I agree with him), Trump is a phenomena that came about this cycle for one reason - a totally do nothing Congress. To have someone, anyone, come in from the outside and say he will fix the broken, was very alluring.
So the Republicans chose Trump as their guy - warts and all. And as bad as his warts are, they are better than Hillary's warts. But - for the third Presidential election in a row, we are going to lose to a very flawed Democratic candidate. The thought of the Clintons in the White House again makes me want to retch. It really does.
Some pundit brought up a very good point over the weekend. The election in November will not be the end of this war. In fact, it will even intensify. There will be many "mini-Trumps" that will emerge who will try and bring her down. And let us not forget the Donald himself. He will be very bitter towards Hillary for defeating him. He will be a thorn in her side almost every day.
Well, back to sleep now. Please wake me up when this election is over. On second thought, when Hillary's term is up.
