Mumbles speaks again!!!

"Let me set up the scene. The place - St. Paul. The players - Mumbles Dayton, Dick Tracy Daudt, and Big Boy Bakk. The subject - special session."

Calling Dick Tracy! Calling Dick Tracy! Mumbles is on the loose again! Okay - this is not about the Dick Tracy comic strip. However, there is a  Mumbles, and that is played by none other than our Governor. And if we had to pick someone who is Dick Tracy, that would be our Speaker of the House.

Let me set up the scene. The place - St. Paul. The players - Mumbles Dayton, Dick Tracy Daudt, and Big Boy Bakk. The subject - special session. It seems the trio had been meeting again to set up the parameters to have a special session. And nothing has changed. Mumbles and Big Boy continue to harp on having SWLRT a part of the mix. Our own Dick Tracy folds his arms and says "No - don't have the votes in the Republican caucus" (which is a true statement).

Well this is starting to infuriate Mumbles. In fact, it is causing him to mumble even more. At a presser right after the meeting broke up, Mumbles said that because the SWLRT is not being built, that is just going to throw more cars on our already crowded freeways.

When Mumbles said that, I had an instant flashback. It was when the Northstar was being debated. The train lovers said if we built the Northstar, it would be like adding another lane onto Highway 10. In other words, the Highway 10 traffic woes would finally be over. Well, we all know how that turned out. Doubt me? Hop onto Highway 10 on a Friday afternoon in the summertime heading north.

Let me help the Speaker out on this one. Dayton and Bakk, along with the rest of the train lovers, have never made the case why ANY LRT would be a good investment. And if Bakk's district had to pay part of the bill for any train, he would hop off the train issue faster than you could say Casey Jones. No, the Speaker has been and continues to be right on this one. LRT is a lousy investment, and many of us will end up paying for something we will never use.

Sorry Mumbles. You will have to find something else to mumble about for a while. The Speaker has been good to his word about no funding for Light Rail. And he still is and will continue to be. Maybe if you guys could make a financial case for a change, we might listen. But the chances of that happening are about as good as Dick Tracy throwing his badge away, and working to work for Big Boy's gang.
