Looking into the darkness....

"Do we have an energy crisis in this country? Nope. How about this planet? Again, no. The solar system? The galaxy? The universe? No, no and no again."

Did you know, that every time a supernova explodes, so much energy is released that the supernova outshines the total of the other 100 billion or so stars in the galaxy? When that happens, all a supernova becomes, is a star whose gravity finally won over the battle with the fusion. When there is not enough fusion, gravity wins, and the next step is a supernova. It produces more energy that this planet could use use in a million lifetimes.

Okay - so what Bird? I hated Astronomy back in school, and I could care less what happens a zillion miles away! Well, here is why we should care. Dark Matter. More and more scientists believe the universe (including right here) is full of Dark Matter. It is the "glue" which holds everything together. Like what? Like atoms for example.

A hydrogen atom. It is one of the most basic elements in the universe. Now, if we could enlarge the nucleus to be only one foot, the electron circling it would be (ready for this?), 10 miles away. What? No way! Yes, way. That has been proven. So what is that which holds that electron place? More and more scientists believe it is something very powerful within Dark Matter - like this thing called Dark Energy.

As a matter of fact, Dark Energy might be the force which is powering the universe. The universe is expanding due to ...? More and more believe it is Dark Energy. So are we ready to harness Dark Energy? Not yet - but within a century or so, maybe. Then what do we do now?

This country is energy rich. And it is rich in something else - innovation. We already know that one major car company will be making all electric or hybrid cars within ten years. That is now the answer, however. The fuel cell might be the solution which will get us through the rest of the century. It is not going to wind, trust me on that one. It might be solar to a degree. But the fuel cell will be the key. And remember, the fuel cell runs on the hydrogen extracted from water. And do we have enough water on this planet? Oh, yeah...

Do we have an energy crisis in this country? Nope. How about this planet? Again, no. The solar system? The galaxy? The universe? No, no and no again. Are we looking for the light? Not really.  Instead, try looking into the darkness. One day, we will find the key. Our days of carbon and bird killing will be in the past. Science fiction is slowly becoming science fact. Hang on tight, open your mind, and the solution will soon be here.
