Countdown to zero

"The very few conservatives who still live in this state are worried that the Republicans will cave to DFL pressure and 'do something'. And every time the legislature 'does something', it costs us more money."

The fear mongering and the belly aching have already begun. Two weeks left in the current legislative session and the statists are worried that it will be another "do nothing" session. The very few conservatives who still live in this state are worried that the Republicans will cave to DFL pressure and "do something". And every time the legislature "does something", it costs us more money.

What has been done so far? First off, no increase in gas tax. Nor will there be if you believe the Speaker. I have heard him say more than once that so long as he is Speaker, there will be no increase in the gas tax. And, no bonding bill as yet which will hide funding for the SWLRT. Again, the Speaker has said so long as he is Speaker, there will be no funding for SWLRT.

On the other side of the coin, there has been no fix for taxing our senior's Social Security. Also, no fix for taxing our veteran's pensions. No fix on our confiscatory estate tax. No fix on our out of control business tax.

They did however, pass a fix for how the Met Council is chosen. However, those paying attention and reading the fine print know this "fix" was all smoke and mirrors. In addition, the Sunday liquor sales was again voted down. Yea Wisconsin! Your Sunday liquor sales will stay strong due to border traffic coming over from Minnesota.

One more word about the transportation funding issue. When I am in our backyard helping to water the plants with our ancient watering can, it takes me a long time. Why? It leaks like a sieve. About 40% of the water never reaches the plants. So I have to fill it up with more and more water all the time.

Okay - that was an analogy. We have enough money in this state to take care of roads and bridges. However, 40% is siphoned away for bike trails, trains and so on. To give the Governor another 16 cents a gallon will do nothing but fund boon more doggles such as SWLRT, Blue Line extension, the casino train to Duluth, and who knows what else. If we had more truth tellers in this state, they would tell the people every train we have built to date has been a loser. Period.

I have said this before, and I mean it. If the Social Security fix goes down in flames this session, I will become the biggest pain in the butt you can imagine for those who caused it. THIS IS NOT A PARTISAN ISSUE! I will rally Democrats AND Republicans to throw the bums out who killed this fix. The House and Senate have 10 days left to fix this thing. Now get to work and fix it.
