More problems at Moo "U"

"No worries however - the University has lots and lots of money. And since those stingy old Republicans in St. Paul will not approve more dough for Moo "U", President Kahler will just raise tuition."

I sure am glad the University has decided to raise tuition (again). They sure know how to be stewards of our hard earned tax dollars (sarcasm dripping). This morning there was an interesting (not really) article in the local fish wrap about our young basketball coach. This young man has a pedigree name and a lousy record. Now we also know he must have also flunked math.

While Norwood Teague was still the Athletic Director, Coach Pitino blew past his budget for his University supplied jet. Not by a little, but by a lot. And Norwood approved the overrun. To the tune of $175,000. No worries however - the University has lots and lots of money. And since those stingy old Republicans in St. Paul will not approve more dough for Moo "U", President Kahler will just raise tuition.

The University is going to really soak the non-resident students. They will bear the brunt of the University's mismanagement of finances. Their tuition is going to go up over $12,000 over four years!

Now since my wife and I have three degrees between us from that place, I have some standing to bitch. And more importantly (like most of us), as a tax payer I REALLY have standing to bitch. There is no excuse. None. No excuse on this planet for this institution to be this poorly managed. And not only the athletic department - across the board. Now it is true you can still get a quality education from that place, but the cost of such should be much, much less.

If I was the King of this state, I would so a total housecleaning at the University. The place is a mess. I would get rid of much of the middle management layer of do nothings, and any Ward Churchill type of professor would be let go immediately. Our kids deserve better. Their parents who get stuck with much of the bill deserve better. And the taxpayers who will get stuck fixing our out of control student debt crisis deserve better.
