Pulling up the roots...

"If truth, facts, and true history are taught early enough in the political process, the bad roots, the roots of sophism and deceit, will never have a chance to grow. Instead the roots that grow will become sprouts of freedom and liberty."

A good friend of mine told me a few years ago to focus on the small elections first. How small? City council and school board small. The reason she gave me was simple - that is where the power for the other side starts. Where the roots start to grow. And to ignore these races, these roots that start to grow, will be at our peril. To only focus on the big ticket races is a mistake that many of us make.

Even though I disagree with most everything Democrats say or believe in, I admire how they operate. They are long game players. They are always thinking three to four moves ahead. A defeat here or there is okay so long as the long game stays on track. Our side does not operate anywhere near that fluid. We are "hercky jerky" in our movements. We are reactive rather than proactive. Most often we put principle above winning. Democrats do just the opposite. Winning is the only thing. Winning is power.

Democrats are also very good at something else. And that really hurts us at times. They know how to talk to the heart. We on the other hand, are very good at talking to the head. As we have found out, the Democrats are pros at reaching the heart. Bottom line - quite often the heart wins out.

Plus they really know how to use the main stream media and their own advertising to accentuate the effect. Then when our side then comes out to refute any charges made by them, to explain the reality of the situation, we come across as mean and heartless. We can be 100% right, and with the right amount of media spin, we come across as 100% wrong.

What can we do? As my friend told me, focus on the roots. Don't let the cancer of misinformation to start growing. To allow them to metastasize into larger politics. If truth, facts, and true history are taught early enough in the political process, the bad roots, the roots of sophism and deceit, will never have a chance to grow. Instead the roots that grow will develop into sprouts of freedom and liberty.

To win the Senate and to hold the House in this very blue state we really do need to focus on the grass roots of our politics. Are we too late for 2016? I sure hope not. This year, the stakes could not be higher.
