Stealing lawn signs...

"I have asked myself many times, why would someone steal our signs? What is it with those on the Left that would allow them to cheat?"

Let me see - the election is 82 days away, and yard signs are already being stolen or defaced. How do I know that? Two reasons. First, I have been seeing videos on the internet which people have been posting. Many of the videos were taken with outdoor surveillance cameras. Second, I had my first sign stolen this week.

Now I am in my mid-60's, and I can honestly say I have never stolen or trashed a political sign I did not agree with. Even when I was much younger, and much more foolish. Not because I am that pious - not by a long shot. It is because of the First Amendment thing. You see, many (maybe most, maybe all) of us on the right have a deep abiding love for our Bill of Rights. Yes, that includes the First Amendment. And even though I may not agree with some signs, I will defend to the death someone's right to put them up.

I have asked myself many times, why would someone steal our signs? What is it with those on the Left that would allow them to cheat? Or to vote more than once? Or to register dead people? I know - not everyone on the Left cheats and steals signs. But it sure seems like more on the Left practice this illicit practice than those on the Right. I might be mistaken on this one, but I don't think so.

Then I get deeper into my thinking. Why is it so many on the Left feel they need to cheat to beat the other side? Are they afraid to get into the arena of ideas? I really don't give a rip on how many Hillary signs I see. Signs do not define her - her past does. Let's debate her past record.

My neighbor, who is supporting someone else for a county commissioner, put up a sign for her opponent facing my lot. I loved it! This very, shy and very nice man put up a sign to proclaim "in your face" with his candidate. And soon I will have another sign facing his lot!

When the election is over, we all take down our signs, shake hands, and remember that we are all friends, neighbors, and Americans. I don't want to lose any race - trust me, I don't. But I can handle a loss if it is fair and square. However, losing because of sign stealing, cheating or whatever - I have no time for. It brings out the "bad bird" in me. And trust me - it is better to keep the "bad bird" happy, and not mad.

  1. Sign stealing isn't just "by kids" as our local police keep saying, year after year, even though only Republican signs are ever stolen. All you need to know is that your signs are proof that you are stupid, or evil, or both and so it's your own fault for not seeing the brilliant and beneficent Left in the same glory they see themselves.
