What do we do about Nork EMP?

"As our country pours all its resources into trying to survive this hit, bad actors like Russia, China and Iran will run wild in the world. Israel would be more vulnerable to attack, without having us to watch her back. In short, the world would be a mess."

Listening to the radio yesterday afternoon as I was dehydrating myself in the afternoon July heat, I heard an interesting man speak about North Korea. His credentials? A CIA station chief for over a dozen years. His observation on what is happening on the Korean Peninsula? Bad now - going to be much worse in 8 to 12 months. I don't know if he should have disclosed this, but he did. The Norks now have an EMP bomb which can take out the entire west coast up to and including the Rockies.

Hello? Governor Moonbeam? If the Norks are able to do this, good-bye to the "Golden State". Good-bye to Silicon Valley. Good-bye to the San Juan Valley. Good-bye to life as we know it to tens of millions of Americans. Oh - one more thing. Prime Minister Trudeau - good-bye to to Vancouver. Good-bye to Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise, you name it. All back in the dark ages due to no electricity.

We have known about the EMP threat since I was a young Naval Officer. Only then it was an EMP threat from the Soviets. What have we done since then? According to those who should be in the know - na-da. And what if this is true? If the Norks now have an ICBM and an EMP weapon ready to take out a third of the country? Should be not be preparing? Should we not have been preparing since the Soviet threat of 1984?

What is our solution to a rogue nation who wants to fire an EMP at our west coast? Especially since now the Norks have mobile launchers as well as submarine launching capabilities. If they launch, hoping we can hit a bullet with a bullet (so to speak). In the land of "we should have", during the Barack Obama "shovel ready" stimulus bill, we could have fixed this issue in five years with only part of the money which was authorized. But we did not. So now our country sits here, vulnerable to a nut ball, who every week threatens us with some kind of nuclear madness.

The aftermath of an EMP strike would be devastating. First off, less than an hour after it happened, North Korea would cease to exist - forever. In our country, millions would die due to the lack of the most common of items - potable drinking water, food, heat, sanitation, medicine and so on.

As our country pours all its resources into trying to survive this hit, bad actors like Russia, China and Iran will run wild in the world. Israel would be more vulnerable to attack, without having us to watch her back. In short, the world would be a mess.

Our President has threatened a serious response to the Norks launching an ICBM. What does that mean? I have no clue. Options are limited. Time is limited. Bunker up folks - the world is skating on thin ice right now.

  1. Considering the physics behind EMP and the status of North Korea’s nuclear program to date, doomsday headlines in the press regarding the North’s potential EMP threat are grossly overstated. North Korea’s nuclear tests have not yet demonstrated sufficient yield to cause damage to large areas through EMP. Moreover, with only a limited arsenal, it would not make sense for the North Koreans to conduct nuclear tests simply to develop EMP weapons.
Given what we know about their weapons, a 20 KT bomb detonated at optimum height would have a maximum EMP damage distance of 20 km; a 1 MT (1,000 KT) bomb would damage out to 1,000 km. The largest North Korean test to date has been estimated to be about 20 KT.
Sleep well, the damage caused by your elected officials will be far greater than anything the NORK's will deliver.
Have a great day, stay hydrated,
