Campaign promise danger

"We left Iraq, and then in marched ISIS, ISIL, Daesh or whatever they are called. Now the country is nothing more than a cauldron of pain, suffering and death."

He always tells us he is a man of his word. He keeps his promises. Well, sort of. Back in the day when he was a boot Senator and a veteran community agitator, he spewed all kinds of statements and promises. Not understanding the world, he promised he would end the Iraq war - like pronto. And Gitmo, that magnet for grooming future terrorists, that would be closed down during his first year.

Well, he got us out of Iraq. Even though his military advisors begged him to keep a residual force within the country. They told the President that without a residual force, all the blood, sweat and tears we spent for gains in that country could be lost. "Nonsense" shouted our untrained Commander in Chief. "A promise is a promise!" So he told our Joint Chiefs to shut up and sit down. We left Iraq, and then in marched ISIS, ISIL, Daesh or whatever they are called. Now the country is nothing more than a cauldron of pain, suffering and death.

And what about Gitmo? By the way, the folks who are resident there are not Boy Scouts. No, they are some very bad actors. People who would like us killed and our way of life destroyed. And they are treated pretty darn well for terrorists. Three hots and a cot. Food they like, prayer time, Qurans to read, the whole nine yards. In a recent article by Western Journalism, it is alleged that 20 to 30 prisoners released in the past two years (that be under Obama's watch) have returned to the Islamic battlefield. But who cares? A promise is a promise.

Of course we cannot forget about his promise to fix our "broken immigration system". Like maybe blanket amnesty for 10 to 15 million illegals. Even though many have told the President our immigration system works just fine thank you, and the only thing that is broken is the law when people try to sneak in the country. Fortunately, Congress and the courts have kept POTUS in check on that promise.

I get kind of kick listening to Bernie and Hillary trying to out promise each other. Lots and lots of promises. One minor problem. Article One to the Constitution gives the Congress the power to initiate laws and spending. The Executive can only suggest to Congress - not promise to the American people.

I continue to only be swayed by only one campaign promise. And it is one I did not hear from Obama, nor have I heard from Bernie or Hillary. And that is the promise to govern by the Constitution. To keep that promise, the President does not need the help nor permission of the Congress to fulfill it. He (or she) can do that by his or her lonesome.
